Valid point, but, at the same time, if I received a letter or note from my FA that consistently merged “a” and "“lot” to for “alot”, I would honestly be wondering how well educated he is.  I’m just a picky guy, though.

What is amazing to me is how people who are rock stupid grasp at things
like this.  To them the fact that the human brain is capable of
translating that message excuses them for being unable to write
correctly.



Why bother to learn to spell when spelling doesn’t matter?  Why
bother to learn to punctuate when people can determine what you mean if
if youi don’t use commas or periods?



Why bother to learn to conjugate a verb when “I be” is just as understood as "I am?"



What did Forest Gump say?  Oh yeah, “Stupid is as stupid
does.”  Sadly that’s the background music of far too many people’s
lives.
