I hereby move that any mockulatory comments made in this forum will always and only reference southern, white, Christian males from this point forward, and everafter.  We are the only people on our fair orb whom you can officially, and with reckless malice aforethought, harangue, abuse, verbally flagellate or otherwise poke, prod and pummel.  We accept this gracefully, with a polite tip of our Bass Pro caps and an impish grin, giving a quick and friendly wave to all from our F150 trucks as we motor out of town to the deer lease.

So let it be written, so let it be done.
Would that wave be with all 5 fingers or just the long one in the middle?
With most of us, it tends to be the patented one-hand draped across the top of the wheel, and the slight upward flick of the index and middle and ring fingers all together in a quick gesture of universal recognition.  Kind of like rules for stopping for a school bus or ambulance...if you have a divided median of some sort with continuous flow traffic in two or more lanes each way, the wave is not required.  If you have 2 lane, opposing flow traffic, the universal wave is polite.   All we are saying, is give peace a chance.......

Maybe it’s just Manhattan where they use that one fingered “quick gesture of universal recognition.”  Here in the midwest we just tend to ingore the other drivers on the road.  Blinkers are optional.

Unless you're on a motorcycle.  Motorcycle riders pretty much universally give a "low five" wave to each other...doesn't matter if you're on a Harley, a rice-burner, crotch rocket or whatever...most riders are friendly to just about anything on two wheels.  Much to my embarrassment, I once motorcycle-waved a moped before I realized what it was.   ...and I agree with the turn-signal comment...I've just about become convinced that turn signals are optional equipment on just about everything driven here in the Midwest...   How in the heck did we get this far off subject on that cockroach Madoff?  I've got a one-finger wave for him and whoever helped him pull off that ponzi...

… beemer - i’ve seen plenty of WASPS get pissed off when a black guy calls them a Honky. …

I'm not doubting that you have maybe seen one or two guys get pissed at this. But, I have a hard time believing it is more than two.  All of my friends (mostly white WASPs) would probably laugh if some black guy called one of us a "honky," or even a "cracker," or even a "cracker ass cracker" as Chris Rock would say.   I think we've taken this PC thing way too far.  My wife and I got into an argument one time when I said that most Jews were good with money.  She thought I was stereotyping, and I guess I was (albeit positive stereotyping). But, she thought that I shouldn't say that because it's offensive. I disagreed. I think most Jews are good with money, and I'm not afraid to say it.  I think most Canadians can ice skate, I think most white guys from Alabama can shoot a gun, etc.  I think that a group of black guys together will almost always be louder than a group of white guys.   We learn to assume things to make life easier. I assume this chair will hold me when I sit down. That saves me from having to thoroughly inspect the chair before I sit down. I assume that other drivers will not be total idiots (I'm sometimes wrong about that). That saves me from having to drive with my hands at 10 and 2 and be on high alert at all times while driving.   Life is made easier by assumptions, and most assumptions are made from experience.  I believe the vast majority of racism (both white and black) was learned through experience vs. having a parent teach it.

Much to my embarrassment, I once motorcycle-waved a moped before I realized what it was.
In that instance, the Greater Than 100cc Code of Two Wheeled Ethics mandates that you pull an immediate rear-wheel-locked-up-u-turn, catch up to the offending moped, and knock it over at the next signal/stop sign.    I'm sorry, but It's the Law.
