Email at Jones

May 2, 2006 6:45 pm

Has anyone actually witnessed an IR at Jones using email? Also what the heck is a T1 line?

May 2, 2006 7:00 pm

email at EJ is a joke. After you read the list of what you CAN’T do with it, theres not much left you can do.

May 2, 2006 7:16 pm

Do you suppose that there will be a new charge on the P&L statement for email?..... say 3 or 4 hundred bucks per month.

May 2, 2006 7:26 pm

Maybe they can find another way to pull 1300.00 out of you butt–they will probably require you to get their own PDA for 2000.00/month

May 2, 2006 7:31 pm

I forgot…“BUY AND HOLD” includes the 1970 satellite system all the branches have. I wonder if the satellite system was an A share purchase at Radio Shack.

May 2, 2006 7:46 pm

You’ll probably have to pay for the contracted IT guy’s health insurance while he’s working on the Commodore’s, too.

May 2, 2006 9:54 pm

Success do you have conversations with yourself often?

When you leave eval grad you are given a basket of rocks and a chisel. Your e-mail is only limited by how far you can throw.

If I were a sales assistant, I wouldn't throw stones... pun intended.

Riggggght. Thanks for uh “keepin it real” dude I totally forgot my place for a minute there. Whew what was I thinking?

May 3, 2006 7:13 pm

Some funny witty posts!  Good laughs.

Did anyone see that new EDJ commercial?  It is set to the tune from the Beverly Hillbillies.  They'er using Tammy Fay and Jim Baker as spokespersons since they have more credibility than anyone working at the home office.  lol

Funny!!!  Almost blew Pepsi through my nose.

Noggin slapped Devoted SA back into her place by saying "If I were a sales assistant, I wouldn't throw stones- pun intended".

So let me ask you Noggin- just what DID you do last year when the EDJ Satellite died and you couldn't work for a week because Jones was scrambling around trying to re-point all those satellite dishes at the new 'star'?  To the best of my knowledge, no other B/D firm has ever been out of business for a week due to a 'technical difficulty'.

Hey, the GP of Tecn makes close to $6 million per year. System must be

state of the art.

I’ve had email for a few weeks now. It doesn’t work particularly well, however. There are no alerts to let you know that you have a new mail, and some failed broker sits in St Louis reading over your shoulder for every single one. I have sent about 6 emails to date…each one informing friends and colleagues that I have email and instructing them to never, ever send me an email. I am as unhappy with this new program and don’t get me started on Quote Monitor…the new one is simply horrendous. It takes almost 4 minutes to open, and that is no exaggeration.

May 4, 2006 6:43 pm

Wow!!  Sorry to hear that.

I must say as an Independent I am not especially happy with the corporate email program too because of the time delay in screening emails. It takes about 30 minutes longer to receive than my personal email because it is routed through a 3rd party system. A minor inconvenience.  However, I get all my mail including the corp box through Outlook so I get alerts etc.  My company doesn't monitor my email boxes so I use a non corporate box to communicate with vendors.  This is ok with the B/D as they are only concerned with client communication.  I suppose I could cheat and sneak things through the personal boxes to clients, but why bother. I am a good girl and don't break the rules anyway.

I don't use Email to sell anything to clients or prospects. However, one advantage to me for email is being able to send PDF copies of statements and financial planning type reports to clients and then we can each open up and discuss on the phone. Some of my clients live in other States or miles from my office. Many of these reports can be very large especially if the client has a lot of holdings or we are doing a complex plan.  It gives them time to look at it first.  Plus I don't have to print out 50 pages.

The biggest advantage is that I can connect directly on the net and download forms, applications, prospectuses (if I am out of that particular one), fact sheets, hypothetical illustrations etc from mutual fund and annuity companies at a moments notice.  That means I don't have to have tons of paper in my office to throw out when it becomes dated.  Same thing goes for brokerage and operational forms.  All on line or downloaded to my computer to print out at will.   If I am doing life insurance I can have proposals emailed to me and life insurance software is updated through internet downloads so I am never out of compliance.

Quotes are real time (I pay extra for that instead of delayed) and trading is real time as well.  S&P reports are able to be downloaded in PDF format and can be emailed to clients or printed out.

I don't know how I ever did business without the internet, email and a DSL line!!!   The time and money saved is phenomenal.

May 4, 2006 6:44 pm

Am I hearing some rumblings from the Bill Fakkland court!?  Sorry to hear of your problems Bill but it is nice to hear you call a spade a spade.  As far as having someone watch your E mails very closely I am in the same boat.  It's the nature of our industry nowdays.  I wonder how the indys handly that from a compliance standpoint.

Now tell me the truth, didn't you think my prior post was funny?

New Quote Monitor system at Jones had nice equity hypo, with options that hadn’t been available previously. But was terribly slow, and hard to get to research reports as well.

May 4, 2006 7:40 pm

oops..I just saw a new mail alert for the first time...so I guess it's been fixed. I still won't use email, however. Malcolmtent, you're funny, but not Bill Fakkland funny. There IS a difference.

May 4, 2006 7:59 pm

Bill,

Jones will make one or two improvements to the current email system--and tell you that it's better than what all the other firms currently have....and then you will suddenly believe them & decide it is...and instantly become the new email king of your region.

SUCK IT UP!  You are at Jones...remember?

Sooth- I said I wasn't out of business a week. That means I was out of business less than a week, it certainly doesn't mean I was up and running the next day. Read between the lines, you are certainly smart enought to do that. BTW, I haven't been Seg 2 for quite some time.

May 5, 2006 3:04 am

C'mon dude, quit taking every little thing so literally.  I was just making light of the absolute boat-without-a-rudder runaway cluster that was the satellite re-point project at Jones.  You had guys who were doing something less than jacksh*t for business who were up and running the next morning, while guys grossing 600K went almost a week with no help.  The communication was poor.  Wait, let me correct that.  The communication throughout the entire outage was non-existent.  Classic Jones "only tell them what they need to know."

Jones has lots of people they call "leaders".  Area Leaders, Regional Leaders, Team Leaders, Development Leaders, blah, blah, blah, blah.  The whole satellite trainwreck exposed Jones for the lack of leadership that exists at the firm.  Plain and simple.

May 5, 2006 3:32 am

I couldn’t agree more Sooth…
