David Allen (GTD Method) and Edward Jones

Jul 12, 2007 4:43 am

Not sure if any of you out there are fans of or familiar with David Allen or the Getting Things Done (GTD) methodology (see www.davidco.com for more info) but was interested to hear a 45-minute audio interview with Connie Burkhart from the St Louis home office on how much GTD is implemented thoughout the entire EDJ sysytem.  I began my career there but left in 2002 and did not see any GTD systems in place at my level.  Was wondering if you current Jones IRs are familiar with this at all or what kind of training is involved with David Allen.

Thanks,

Div

No idea what you are talking about. BUT, I will say that things have been

getting done pretty quickly there lately. I’m not sure if Weddle is actually

starting to pull a lot of weight now that he’s been in a while or what. But

he is making stuff happen pretty damn quickly. From what I hear, the 30

years prior to that was like watching molasses roll down hill.

Broker24 drivels pro-Edward Jones propaganda like the koolaid-drinking zombie that he is.

No surprise, considering he's been at Jones one year!

OK then. You apparently haven’t seen some of my posts regarding my

dislikes about the firm.    Just because I like working there, I wouldn’t

term it pro-EDJ propaganda. Far from it.

Jul 13, 2007 2:13 pm

The firm is always looking for a new way to get things done better.  While I haven't heard anything from my home office friends about the GTD system specifically, I do know that anyone in a management position takes classes to become a better manager.  Peter Drucker's Management: Tasks, Responsibilities, and Practices is required reading for all new leaders.

B24 is right about the last 30 years.  Seems the firm had one focus: growth.  Now they're playing catch up with the rest of the industry.  But Weddle has definitely made some changes quickly.

I'll ask some buddies to see if they know anything about the GTD methodology.

BTW, are you sure it was Connie Burkhart?  She's a BOA out in CO, so I'm a little suprised that you'd hear her on a 45 minute audio interview talking about the home office.

Jul 13, 2007 4:04 pm

What changes is Weddle making?  In the last few years, we’ve gotten email and had to take the 66.  Is there something else?

Jul 13, 2007 4:21 pm

Are you still connected to the satellite?  They're still "discussing options" about a fee based platform.  That would never have happened under Doug or John.  Have you found the FAST tools yet?  Used them even?  Have you used remote access yet?  Bought a phone with Jonesnet on it?  Have you noticed Federated got kicked to the curb and Oppenheimer brought in?

I don't know if all of those things are specifically Weddle's doing or not, but you have to admit that, except for the fee based platform, things seem to be moving at a much faster pace.  It seems they realize we are behind and have made a decision to fix that.  ASAP.

How long have you been at Jones, broker24?

Jul 13, 2007 5:29 pm

Please kill this thread now,  these things have been discussed to death over the last 2 years.  Agree to disagree.

Jul 13, 2007 6:29 pm

Then don't click on the thread anymore.  Have a nice day!

Jul 13, 2007 11:27 pm

Seriously, broker24, how long have you been at Jones?

You weren't here before Weddle, so that means you've been at Jones less than 2 years.

You’re right, and that’s my point. All the negative things I hear about EDJ

on this site seem to either be in the past or are being quickly addressed.

I’m not saying he’s some mesiah, and I’m not saying Jones is the end-all

b/d. I only stated that it seems like things are changing very rapidly since

I have been here. I compare it to my previous life in corporate finance at

a F500 company - change was hard. What has been going on recently

simply doesn’t happen as quickly at other large companies (financial or

otherwise). And I think at Jones it has all to do with the changing of the

guard. JMHO.

What a douche.  I bet you're the guy who walks up to Weddle and after some pleasant remarks, you ask if you can feel his hair, and then giggle when he lets you.

He does have nice hair.

He would have to stand behind Spiffy on the hair deal…What a joke the remote access was…took me 20 minutes just to log in…That was a real winner!!

That is funny you mention that.  She says the two always get confused and that Connie Burkhart always gets her email (wow you guys have email now?).

It is actually Connie Burkhardt from St. Louis that was interviewed.

All that fodder out there and that's what you choose to respond to?  And you're right.  I do fit in with EDJ.  Thanks for the complement.

Don't blame Jones for a slow computer and user error.  It takes me about the same time to launch the system at home as it does at my office.  Less than a minute.

I like to be different.
Jul 16, 2007 3:20 pm

Slow computer or me…wasn’t the problem…and you know it.

Jul 16, 2007 3:39 pm

Actually, based on my own experience, I don't know it.  I have zero problems with the remote access.  I use it frequently.  Without any glitches.  I even helped another FA get his set up at home and the whole process with him maybe took 10 minutes.  That included downloading the necessary software too.  So, again, don't blame Jones for your computer or whatever the problem.  It obviously works well if you do it right.  Pretty much like everything else.

Jul 16, 2007 3:58 pm

Okay…lets get this straight.  You now say everything works right…and I’m assuming you mean Jones in general.  But your other posts discuss the company needing changes.  Which is it superstar?  Hint, call ALL your home office buddies and get the correct answer. And again your remote access, when I was there, was full of problems and AGAIN nothing todo with my computer or myself…Funny how the joker who just left my office, and went to another brokerage, calls you guys a cult …he’d only been with Jones maybe half a year…His calls to the clients left in my old office, only help with ME moving them.

Jul 16, 2007 6:15 pm

OK, fine.  Your experience is different than mine.  Thus a different perspective and different posts.  It's the same thing over and over with you and I.

You had a bad experience with Jones.  OK, I get it.  Whether you got passed over for an open office, didn't get LP, or Jones put you on goals and told you to beat it, I don't know (actually I do, but I'm not sharing that with the rest of the forum), but something has made you extremely bitter and not able to let go.  Cult.  No.  Loyal employees.  Yes.  There's a difference.  The new guy in your office wasn't around long enough to learn anything about how Jones really works.  Maybe if they find someone to put in there this time that is willing to work hard the revolving door will stop.  Hope you didn't leave an old list laying around with your clients names on them.   Some ambitious new FA may make it a personal challenge to go after those old assets.

The changes that I discuss Jones needing to make have very little to do with technology and more with ways to make me and my office more competitive with everyone else out there.  I don't think the company is perfect.  I also KNOW that it isn't as bad a place as you make it out to be.

Jul 16, 2007 6:24 pm

Well, considering none of the above works for the reason I left...Only that many of my friends went Indy, and I chose to move on. So your little inuendo's aren't working.  Your true colors are shining, your manipulative, coniving and probably as dishonest as they come. Have you sold anything today?  I'm guessing the month ends next week..you'd better get to it.  I assume you've been calling on the 30 year bond placed into inventory today, right? And yes, it's a cult. Sorry.

Jul 16, 2007 6:51 pm

You two should just meet up at a motel somewhere and just get it over with…

Jul 16, 2007 7:56 pm

Why get it over with?  This is a crusade.

So your little inuendo's aren't working.  Your true colors are shining, your manipulative, coniving and probably as dishonest as they come (I guess that would depend on your frame of reference). Have you sold anything today?  I'm guessing the month ends next week (Tuesday)..you'd better get to it (Actually, yes, a couple of stocks, a tax free bond, some funds...not a bad days work).  I assume (You know what they say about assuming) you've been calling on the 30 year bond placed into inventory today, right (No, it was a 15 year muni at 4.65% and I'm not sure when they put it in inventory because it was an out of state bond)? And yes, it's a cult . Sorry (No need to apologize for being wrong).
