Brainwashed BOA's

Jun 20, 2006 6:55 pm

Not only are the licensed employees of EDJ brain washed by ythe cult but so are a majority the Business Office Administrators…aka (glorified secretaries). My former BOA at EDJ just took an offer to go to work at ML for a broker of 27 years. She was very excited and decided to contact some of her friends at EDJ…2 of the 3 BOA’s she talked with ask her the same question…“how much of a pay cut did you have to take”? It must really be getting bad if the GP’s are starting to spread the BS to the secs. Next thing you know the janitors in St Louis will be drinking the stuff…simply amazing.

Jun 20, 2006 7:04 pm

A topic I REALLY am TRULY TRULY qualified to talk upon.

Jonesescapee....I will do you one better. When I worked there I was editor in chief (yeah right noone else wanted to do the job) of the BOA regional newsletter (and Regional Meeting coordinator too).

I used to pump the gals in my region SO FULL of propaganda when the annual Registered Rep Sales Assistant issue would come out, about how the pay scale published was skewed, and how it was so terrible SAs worked for multiple reps, how they weren't appreciated, how they HAD to be licensed and that Jones was PROTECTING us by NOT having us licensed.  How ONLY Jones cared about our clients by keeping one IR one asst offices, blah blah blee blee.

Yes...Yes. Vomit into your trashcan now.

Jun 20, 2006 7:13 pm

OK...I am...

Jun 20, 2006 7:15 pm

Dev's

Not only did she get a bigger pay but she told me she would be eligible for a 2-12% raise annually from ML and she could recieve a quarterly bonus from the broker. BTW the broker has been in biz with ML for 27 years and has a fee based book, so her bonuses will not be hinged on trimesters that washed out to the licensed employee in the office then to her. I just wonder if she will have to watch those stupid sexual harrassment tapes. The more and more I learn about Edward Jones the more I'm embaressed to tell people that I was at one time employed there.

Jun 20, 2006 7:16 pm

Dev's

Did you ever get a bonus pay check from the IR in the office you worked at?

Jun 20, 2006 7:25 pm

Yes. Always. Even in the beginning, when our first bonus was a whopping $43. ROFLMAO.  Of which I was eligible to earn $7 from, with Jones match I got $14...which I promptly ran out to the AM/PM behind our office and bought a six pack of Coors Light to bring back to the office to toast our ROCKIN success!

We kicked off our heels under her desk, put our feet up and said to ourselves...yes sir WE have made it.....

I'm not kidding. We really did. Now that our/my bonus checks are A LOT more we still hold to our Friday routine of closing the office early and heading to Chuy's for fish tacos and margie's.

True story........An EDJ employee called me from a steak house were he and his wife were eating, he told me he just had a ten et month and was "living the dream".  poor bastard.

Jun 20, 2006 7:58 pm

Chuys? As in the Texas based Chuys? I love that place!

Jun 20, 2006 8:50 pm
Chuys? As in the Texas based Chuys? I love that place!
Texas based yes..but in Cali. We aren't the martini/cigar high roller lounge type. We have "MARKETING MEETINGS" at Chuy's every Friday. You have to be careful what ideas you come up with after fish tacos and margies...in retrospect having a table at the local street fair wasn't THE best idea.

Jonesescapee....I guess you have to start small. Thinking back cracking open those mildly cold Coors Lights was high living, we've now accomplished alot more. I'm excited tobe able to attend our National Conference this summer and see Tom Brokaw speak. I was 7 yrs with Jones and had JUST rcvd my first invitation to St Louis before we left.

Jun 20, 2006 9:18 pm

I am embarassed to admit the first few 'bonuses' I gave my BOA.

We used to get Starbucks cards for recruiting efforts at Regional Meetings. $10 a piece.

I re-cycled mine (don't drink Starbucks) because my BOA just LOVED Starbucks. She'd walk in with her coffee-latte-vanilla-chai fluffy whatever and thank me over again. Then one day a visiting IR noticed her Starbucks cup and said "Here, you can have mine." She figured out where my card came from...

Funny how things slowed for awhile. Missed messages. Shredded Transfer Paperwork and sick days.... lots of sick days....

Jun 20, 2006 9:36 pm

Pretty Cheesy Muny.  (I forgive you tho)

My rep is a classy one. Back BEFORE we were profitable one of my first bonus' was dual tickets to the PRCA rodeo championships for her, her hubby, myself and my hubby.

But I still had to buy the first round of beer.

Seriously where do you people live?  It some sort of vacuum?  The BOA’s in my region complain about how much they are paid.  They have internet and everything.  How hard is it to research this stuff, and why is this worth a topic to start.  Wow.

So if the BOAs in your region complain about how much they are paid and "have that dang internet n everythang" why don't they research what industry standard is?

As in IR surely you know every year come about review time a letter is sent out from STL stating "we did research about industry standard for SAs and here's what we are willing to pay for your area blah blah...but don't tell your BOA...blah blah"

I didn't start the topic. But I commented on it. And besides it's different than the overdone revenue sharing isn't it?

And I had another thought Max. I'm not trying to speak with any disrespect at all to you because I think you've worked very hard to be where you are.

Jones BOAs are some of THE most complaining bunch of b*tches I think I have ever seen. Have you ever read the boa sugg box?

Complaining about the IR who got his nipple peirced and was rubbing himself all the time? Moaning about taking the colored files into the john? Feeling put off because you have nothing to wipe your *ss with when you come to work because your IR won't buy tp?

Might as well get a fan and audition for the next performance of Scarlett O'Hara.

I think 50% of it comes from boredom or complacency and the other 50% comes from jealousy. I was never jealous of my reps trips. (though I will admit by trip # eleventy kabillion I was a bit envious) But that's when I knew I needed to get off my butt and get my license.

Do you recall the GP that was filming the BOA going to the bathroom

Jun 21, 2006 3:25 pm

Was it Guest1?!!

BTW, Holder still lurks (at least as of 6/13) even though he hasn’t posted since his infamous exchange with spiked on 5/31…

I missed hearing about that. If't were me....it'd been on like Donkey Kong...no need to involve the geeps. Open up 50 gal drum of whup *ss ol Roy D Mercer would be proud of.

What about the BOA who was answering the phone in the toiley via wireless headset? Now THAT'S efficiency! "Thank you for calling Edward...frrrpppppp"

Wasn't it in Tommy Boy when Ray Zalinsky said something like..."send over a bottle of champagne on ice...no wait skip the champagne, just the ice, with a note that says tough break, ice down your rocks on me, love ray"

Jun 21, 2006 4:44 pm

he still sends the champagne and tells him to get drunk on me, use the ice to ice down your marbles.

You guys are totally wrong.  My BOA can kick any ML, SB or whatever's BUTT.  She comes in on time, is loyal, and works very hard.  She knows she is appreciated and I pay her huge bonuses.

I take her to lunch at the Chinese restaurant next door to my office once a month (and She LOVES IT!). I also pay her a $1 for every account opened and will surprise her with a bag of M&M's or whatever candy she prefers.  She snacks on them all day.  For Christmas, I take her to Bob Evans or Friendly's.  We have a GREAT relationship and I really appreciate her.  She even gives me referrals from her church and from her husband's plant.

The internet at Jones?  May as well not even have it if it's going to take all day to open a few pages.  When I was with the cult I remember having to go home to use the internet if I wanted to run a Goldman Sachs Xray on a portfolio.  I simply didn't have two hours to get it to work.  I really don't think the internet was meant to run over a satellite system Max!

Jun 22, 2006 2:21 am

Why don’t you guys believe me?  I’m going to eat at the buffet tonight with my family at the Chinese restaurant next to my office.  I bring in my six kids and my beautiful wife and we eat and eat and eat.  I also need to drop my business cards at the cashier register.  They have my card and the local Chiropractor.  My wife calls him a “Quack.”  However, she visits him every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  He seems like a really nice guy especially when he sees my wife.

Jun 22, 2006 11:52 pm

The chiropractor's hair is red.

Two of my kids have red hair.  What's your point?

By the way, one child is named Edward, one is named Doug, one is named Mary (after my BOA), and one is named Lou (after my BOA).  The other two: one is a Jr. and the other girl is named after her grandmother.

And before you even think that my wife slept with the chiropractor, my dad's stepfather has red hair too.  So there.

A friend of mine has an internet dish set-up. It's like a "Directv" dish, but dedicated to the internet, only. It's very fast, but very expensive. And God forbid, if the midwest is getting hit with storms, he can't pick-up anything.
