The iPad is straight AWESOME!
One for everyone in the office.
I have no idea what it does, but it looks really cool.
It does look pretty cool. From what I've read it's really only an iPhone on steroids. It would have been really cool if they would have put a good sized HDD on it. They say it's better than the iPhone/iPod touch for games, browsing, etc, but if you can't store 200GB of music on it, then why waste your time. Get yourself a good laptop. If you look at the photos of his presentation where they put up the grid of pricing, to get one that might actually replace, kind of, a laptop your looking at $800+. Of course to get the 3G like the iPhone you still have to buy the data package. So, tack $30 a month onto that $800. At least that's what AT&T charges for their iPhone data package.

Not to mention it's like a reader as well. I will gladly pay $800, and pay the data plan fee. I have had an iTunes account since it came out and have loaded old CDs into iTunes. I only have 10GB of music/books/data. Not to mention, it is like the iPhone so you can sync it so you won't have everything on it.
Also, renting movies. You can rent a movie and when you are done, it expires. No more space taken up. Bloody brilliant!

But, you can always convert the PPT to Keynote. You will lose transitions, but there shouldn't be too many for Jones presentations.
As for the lack of USB ports, I never really use USB. The purpose of the thing is not to replace a desktop or laptop, but to make some things portable. Think about it for a second. You are going on a biz trip. You can take the 1.5lb iPad, with a Keynote presentation that you need to give. While you are at it, you can edit a proposal in Pages, read up on the people you are presenting to on the plane, surf the net, video chat with your kids, listen to some good music while you sleep, etc.
Or you can tote around an 8 - 10lb laptop that has more than you need AND a portable storage device because you've overloaded your PC or Mac with info.
I'm sorry guys - I think it's revolutionary.

I don’t see it as revolutionary in features, but rather design - It will be the first tablet that actually will be used. Quick powerup, compared to all windows tablets, as well as an enthusiastic user base will build the product.

And my guess is it won't then either. My Macbook has a curved bottom just like the iPad and it doesn't wobble. Nor does the iPhone, especially if you have one of those nifty jimmy hats on it.
I hear the iPad has extra absorbancy, and the newer versions come with iSecure wings for extra leakage protection.

A Mac can do anything a PC can do, just better. I’m not sure what you mean when you say that they are just trying to be different. The fact that I’ve never had a problem with any of the Macs we own is a testament to the durability and reliability. I still have a G4 from like 6 yrs ago. Works like a charm.
As for the iPhone, it is not so much that the iPhone itself is so great, but that it is a great platform for the various applications. I have Kindle on mine and can download books pretty much whenever I want. The battery seems like it lasts forever. I email when I want (and the electronic keyboard has auto-correct - I don’t know that the blackberry does - it might). I use the bank application to transfer money between accounts, if I don’t know the name of a song, I use Shazamm. There is a personal assistant app that will answer my phones for me, I can use it as a remote to make my presentations. I can instantly flip a .pdf opened to my iMac to finish reading it. I can actually use it to control the TV and cable box in my house. Some times when I’m bored, I sing into the “I am T-Pain” app. If I need to ask directions in a foreign country, I have an app that lets me do that. It turns into a flashlight. I can have lightsaber fights with my daughter. Want to find a particular restaurant in an unfamiliar city - app for that.
I have learned to play the piano on my iPhone while in Drs. Waiting rooms. Does anybody else have a phone that can do that?
I think it’s ok to hate Apple because it can sometimes be hard to transition. But really, most Apple stuff is pretty intuitive. Microsoft makes everything as complicated as possible. We were visiting my parents at Christmas, and my Dad had picked up a new laptop, complete with Windows 7. Ease of use, I’ll give it a 4.
Also Ice - you don’t have kids, so you’ve never had to hear the dreaded, “When are we going to be there”. iPhone/iTouch is the best kid’s playmate there is. Here you go kiddo. Also, I have empirical evidence that it cuts down on the need to go to the bathroom every thirty minutes.

Ok. I've done PPT's and I've done Keynotes. Keynotes flow better, can integrate video better (no delay). The graphs are cleaner, etc. Also, I know that you can do the same thing in Excel (it takes longer), but I wrote the models I use for my security selection program in about thirty minutes. I have done similar things through Excel and it has taken me hours.
But I will agree that I guess it is preference. Or the unwillingness to try new things. I'm always trying to get my wife to try new things....

Switch the order of the "Maximize, Minimize, and Close" buttons at the top of a window. No right click mouse button, when you CLEARLY want the features of a right click button. Those are the 2 most annoying.
What? I'm not sure I get it. You click on the right side of the mouse and it works just like a right click, so I'm unsure of what you are talking about. As for the miniminze maximize close buttons, who cares. All I need to do is touch the sides of my mouse and I can see all windows I have open and pick which one I want. A lot easier to move between programs.

My home computer (PC - Desktop) has a 2.2 Ghz Athlon 64 and 1 GB of RAM. I'm not sure how old it is, but I'm guessing at least 3 or 4 years? Works great.
Every PC I have ever had has crashed. As for your colored wheel of death. It has happened a few times. Usually because I haven't downloaded the updates. But I did have one annoying instance where my iMac froze. I took it to the Mac store, they said the hard drive was trashed, transferred my files and gave me a new one in one hour.

Alright, I’m going to have to chime in on this. Ice, most of those games you listed are also available on PS3, with the exception of Halo (of course) and Gears of War. PS3 does have Resistance, though, which is just as fun as Halo, IMO. You Don’t have to pay to play online with the PS3, and for kid’s games (or for young female financial advisors) Little Big Planet is one of the best games out there. The innovation of that game is absolutely mind-blowing.

Yeah. Using it right now. Love it. Fast power up, intuitive, apps are feakin unbelievable. This is my first apple product and I’m quite impressed.
One big issue with the iPad tampon....

My $300 netbook blows the iPad away.
the ipod is cool, but still, more features for less money elsewhere. Apple is a great marketing company, however their products are not any superior.... in design. yes. in marketing... yes. Technology? No.
It only took them 2 generations of iphones to come up with copy and paste.... something my 10 year old Palm Treo had since day one.

There is no mistaking that the apple ipad is an amazing device ( and no i am not an apple fanboy) but then there really are a lot of limitations in it. Like no multitasking, have to purchase expensive docking equipment, no multitasking no flash ( come on apple!). HMm but the fact remains even in-spite of the glaring cons and the fact that it is made in China ( height of outsourcing ) the ipad has gone for record sales. Feature to feature there are host of other tablets which probably are better than an ipad. But when it comes to doing the simple things in an user friendly and intuitive way, The apple ipad is the king.But i still think that it is a tad over expensive and could do with flash support (i mean big downer!!)

OR, go a Non-Apple route…Samsung has some great tablets, all different sizes with beautiful screens, great processing power, and they connect beautifully with other Samsung products like TVs and laptops. There are other alternatives to the Cult of Steve Jobs
