Taking the 66 on 2/9 Few Questions

Jan 30, 2009 4:15 am

Hey everyone I am a newbie to this site and I am thankful that I have found it. I passed the 7 in Dec with an 81 and started doing the 66 right after the holidays. I started with the STC book and did some of their practice tests and moved on to downloading Securities Institute of America and read their book as well. Now I got the Kaplan Drill and Practice CD and I used it for the 7 and everyone says its the best guide for both exams and the questions are similar.

I just wanted to reconfirm the Kaplan material and how much more I should do next week. For the 7 I was doing like 6-8 tests per day and I would say I did about 15 practice test with the Sec Training Institute, 6 with STC and about 25 so far with Kaplan. Next week I am going to really crank the 66 stuff and do like 5-6 a day. Just want to know if that is sufficient. With teh 7 I had about 75 practice tests with Kaplan under my belt.

I am getting better with the material but I have to stop second guessing myself. I have really started to break 80 and got an 87 on one exam today and did two others and got 82 and 81. In your honest opinions one more week with the Kaplan and serious test drilling will I be 100% ready to go?

Thanks Alot,

Angelo

I am taking my series 66 on Thursday. I took it once after passing my 7, but underestimated 66 the first time i took it scoring a 53%. I am using STC and am taking between 2 and 3 test a day and am scoring in the high 80s and low 90s.

We will see what happens on thursday!

Keep taking the tests.

Jan 30, 2009 4:48 am

Will I be ok with only studying with STC test?

Jan 30, 2009 4:55 am

Thanks alot guys. Im really starting to get better with it I love the Kaplan disk as no two tests are the same. So keep doing the practice tests and I should be okay. My tutor said I am there and another week with the Kap Drill and I should pass. The 66 is not harder than the 7 just more in depth with the topics, this is my assessment from the doing the practice tests. But it took me like 2 and a half weeks to even start breaking 80s on the 7 practice and now I am breaking 80 consistently one week into doing practice tests for the 66. I think I will be ready!!!

Will I be ok only using STC material to study for my 66?

Take as many tests as possible from as many sources as possible. It’s not so much knowledge but being comfortable with the format. It’s all persistence, and it pays.

Just using STC in fine.

Take as many tests as you can, but beware memorizing the questions. Mix up the order or use the CD and take different chapters in different formats(question and answer/closed book/etc.) As the others have said, put in the time and the results will come. The 7 and the 66 are intimidating, but doable.

I used only Kaplan for both series 7 and 66. 95 on the 7 and 90 on the 66. The key is to take as many practice tests as possible but beware of memorization of the questions. What was really effective for me was to take my final tests out of the practice tests where they give you and explanation for every right and wrong answer. At least once a day take a final exam and open your book and look up every single answer, whether you are sure you know it or not. It will help you fully understand the material and force you to reread important parts of the book. I found that Kaplan questions were nearly identical in both exams. Sometimes they ask questions that are not in the book. Use google (.gov/ .org sites only) to reference answers. Hope this helps.

at my company i had access to fire solutions.  i never used it.  i found an stc book and skimmed through it and then took the tests over and over until i could practically memorize it(i know your not supposed to do that but it helps).  for the test itself, read the questions slowly. they can be a little confusing like there appears to be two right answers.  all you need is a 71 so dont sweat it.  i took it in 2 weeks and got in the mif 80's.

good luck.

I don’t care what my score is as long as I pass. A 71%=100% in my eyes!

Are people really even giving their business to boys named Ryan, Dylan, Colton, etc…?

I can't wait for you to tell a client, should you pass your exams, that 71% of their portfolio equals 100% in your eyes. They will be stoked.

It seemed to me the 7 was a bunch of double negatives and trickery.

The 66 had a paragraph of lawyer speak for each question.   I smoked the 7 but was shaking in my boots on the 66.

Hey guys thanks for all the great and positive responses. For the past three days all I have been doing is attacking those practice Kaplan CD tests. The big thing was I read to books for this exam prior to even starting any practice tests.

So today i did 5 practice tests average score 88 and I did one timed final and got an 84. Last night I did a timed final and got an 88 and Monday I did one as well and got an 86. All the while doing at least 5 practice tests along with the timed final. From my reading and research alot of people say that if you put the effort this test is a breeze. Most people fail because they do not take it serious enough. The material is really not that hard just have to understand the differences between IA IARs, BDs and Agents along with whats exempt and whats not exempt securities and transaction wise. The best past is the breakdown on the important part State Regs Im killing it getting like 33 out of 37 correct on the finals and on the practice 30 out of 33.   Im gaining more confidence and I really feel ready to go for Monday. With these scores what is the rest of you fellows assumptions as to how I will do.

Pardon my spelling lol!!!! But I really want to rock this test, I will not be satisfied with a 71, I want to get in the 80s.

Feb 5, 2009 1:51 am

I am taking the test tomorrow. I have been using STC exam and was scoring 98,99, and 100s on all of them. I will let you know how I do tomorrow. I don’t care what the score is, as long as I pass…

Feb 5, 2009 4:33 am

Iceco, thanks alot man its great to hear someone that used the same material did really well on the test. My buddy who works on the exchange who tutors and has every license under the sun said the same thing about Kaplan. Their practice tests seem to be  harder than the actual exams. Hopefully this holds true for me as well. I did well on the 7 with an 81 and intend on doing well on the 66. If that holds true in regards to the practice tests I should be fine. I did a few more just now and was getting in the mid 80s.

And to the gentleman taking it tom good luck and come back on and let me know how it was!!!

lelonyc I will let you know how I do tomorrow!

Feb 6, 2009 12:41 am

I sure I will get flamed, but I don’t care… I failed the 66 today getting a 68%.

This test is very difficult! Who ever takes this test in the future don’t underestimate it. In my opinion this test is more difficult then the 7. Its not the material that is hard, it how they ask questions and you have to pick the best answer(there can me more then one current answer). There were many answers that I could argue that was the right answer, but there was a MORE right answer. Very difficult test. Now I have to take it in a month!

Feb 6, 2009 12:46 am

Ryan, sorry to hear that. I don’t think you’re alone though. I’ve heard of a lot of people struggling with the 66. What study program did you use and how did you do on the practice tests?

Feb 6, 2009 2:22 am

I feel for Ryan and nobody should say anything about him failing. Gotta just do it the next time. Im just hoping that I pass this thing monday. Ryan just wanted to know how many practice tests were you doing per day and how many book sources did you use. I read two books for the 66 and I have up’d my practice tests to 6-8 per day with Kaplan. Im in study mode like I was with the 7, just gotta bear down and do it.

Also right before I took the 7 I woke up extra early did a practice test and did a bonds test. For the 66 going to do the same with a practice test and then do 50 questions on State Regulations and another 40 on Registration of IA. Then head on the train and hopefully rock this damn thing.

Good Luck today lelonnyc

Hey Ryan, I passed with a 77. You were right the test was hard and I was sweating bullets when I hit that button. I truly wanted to break 80 and rock it but as you stated, some questions you had to distinguish between two very similar answers.

I think going into the final 20 questions I was down!! But I slowed myself down and really beared down and did what I had to do. The Kaplan CD will def help and let me recommend another training test you can download onto your PC or Laptop. It is Securities Institute of America, their simulation tests are difficult and a great prep as well.  This is my buddies company go to www.wallstreettutors.com and you can download for like 45 bucks. Def worth it along with the Kaplan CD.   GOOD LUCK in 30 days and you will pass!!!
