Should I become a financial advisor part time?
Hello,
I’m new to the forum and have a question and would love to hear what y’all think. I’m 35, have a PhD in Economics and currently teach Economics at a well-known university in the Southeastern US. I love my job but I also have serious interest in a career as a financial advisor, mostly because I want to help people in my community achieve financial security (I know, it’s an old cliche but I really do have a passion in it; I’m an immigrant and a lot of my fellow expats are not well-prepared for things like retirement). Right now I’m earning between 100 and 150k per year, and since I love my current job (did I already tell you that?), I’m thinking about working as a financial advisor part time. What is your take on that? What kind of certifications/licenses should I be looking at obtaining and how do I go about preparing for them? Thanks!
