The Series 7 is HARD!

Jan 16, 2009 9:57 pm

I passed today with a 72%.  In my defense I only had just over two weeks to prepare but man it was tough.
Now I’m a “Series 7 Licensed broker. Now you’re a millionaire, it’s that f*cking simple.”
If only it were that easy.

Nice job! 2 weeks huh? Must’ve been busting your @ss!!! I just got hired by Edward Jones and start studying for the 7 in a couple weeks. They give me two months to prepare though.

Congrats and good luck to you!

The 7 is not hard, two weeks or not.  Try the 3.  Take a weekend to study for it.  Let me know what you think a hard test is.

Jan 17, 2009 12:24 am

Nicely done. You took a perfectly innocent celebratory exclaimation about someone else’s accomplishments and turned it into a pissing contest.

Jan 17, 2009 12:25 am

It is what it is.  Simply stated the 7 is not that hard.

Jan 17, 2009 12:27 am

Every exam is easy… if you STUDY.

Get over yourself Sam.   Good job Glenngarry!

I don’t know about the 3 but I’ve heard many people say the 7 is difficult so I know I’m not a lone.  It may be the amount of the material versus the difficulty level, but trying to absorb it all in two weeks was a little tough for me.  Perhaps Sam is just a stud.  Kudos.

If you think the 7 is hard, I cant wait to hear how hard you think it is to build a book.
Good luck.

Lol! This sentence alone has been keeping awake at nights and giving me ulcers. How does the saying go? "Life is a bitch and then you marry one." I guess I'll consider the 7 the day I get "married" to my new career.

I know some very dumb people that have passed it. You either ace it, barely pass, or bomb it.

Jan 17, 2009 7:14 pm

The only thing easier is the series six and the insurance exam.  Nonetheless, my guess is that your limited study time made it seem hard.  Now, get ready to find out what “hard” is…

Oh, and yes, Sam is a stud.  I feel like a dumbass in his presence.

Perfect utility in study/passing, one point over the pass mark. Any more than that is a waste of time. Congrats. I found the 66 to be a bit challenging. Safe bet that’s next on your list.

Jan 17, 2009 7:23 pm

Every interview I’ve been to they’ve always asked what I scored.

Congratulations, GlenGarry.  Ignore the sourpusses that come here to simply dump on other people because it makes them feel superior or better about their own miserable lives.

Congrats on passin the 7!!!

You've been interviewing with some stupid managers.  I'd hate to be working where you finally decided to work - since they keep asking you a stupid question.   I've NEVER been asked what I "scored" on my exams!   What did your manager "score"?   What did the money manager's score on the 7?   Who the @#$% cares???   Of course, the only interview that really matters is from the client and they have never asked me what I "scored".

I can’t speak about series 7 scores, but as a manager, I care more about your effectiveness at work and how a person utilizes the information they learned - productively. I know a high score may be a sign of a hard worker or one with a photographic memory; then again some people score high on a test and can’t do a thing with it.

Merrill and Morgan, hell even the guy at EDJ was curious. If anything, they were probably asking for their own curiosity.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I start in a week and a half. (already did my 66 and life/health exams)   Now I’m working on my list of prospects and looking for any help on any way to build a practice.  I was in mortgages for a while and have a good 150 past clients to start working on as well as my natural market etc.  Wish me luck and the same to all of you!

A manager who asks you what you scored is probably testing you to see if you’ll lie.  They can pull up the scores for every test you’ve ever taken by looking at your U-4 on the FINRA website.

  Nope

Actually, it’s more of a conversation starter than anything.  If I were a hiring manager:

"Nice to meet you.  So what'd you score on the 7?  OK.  Not bad.  Pretty tough exam, huh?  Yeah, if you think that was tough, wait until the next 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, and 5 years go by, then tell me what you think is tough.  Now GTF outta here!"

My god, I have to say I have never seen such chilish behavoir as from the jerk who wants to pounce on others accomplishments. He claims he found the test easy, well then he probably makes shit as a broker. I owned a firm from 1994 to 2000 and I have to say that the better the test taker the worse the broker. One of my top producers had to take the test twice but after he did  pass he brought home a huge check every month. I also saw brokers who paid someone else to take the test for them, couldn't pass themselves but awesome brokers.(I don't recommend this as they caught hundreds of them and yanked their license's) I've also seen a broker make a lot of money and not know a thing about stocks. We all exceed in different areas, I'd rather be a bad test taker and a better broker any day of the week. kuddo's to all that try and work hard.  It is a tuff business and even tuffer for a women to get where I did. There will always be the arrogant idiots who think there sh*t doesn't stink , they will figure out soon enough it smells worse than most. . As for building your book,  do yourself a favor and buy your own leads from a good lead co. The top brokers get the better leads, you will get the leads that have been called already. If you invest a little money it will pay off in the end, it's no different than having your own business.  Good luck to all and happy selling.
