Past performance disclaimer

I'm curious on how we all phrase to our clients the past performance disclaimer.
Is it ethical to say that generally a mixture of assets will outperform CD's, bonds, etc. in the long run and then illustrate historical data?
What is happening out in the field just in case I get secret shopped!!!

I use the word “historically” rather than “generally”.
