Jones Friends

This is directed to fellow Jones FA's but I'm sure other people will chime in. I have been out for about 18 months and if I wander down another street I may puke. I have no problem cold calling and my question is would it make sense to cold call, find those in my area who are interested, and then personally deliver something to achieve a face to face contact. Any thoughts ?

BSpears has a great concept for a sorta door knocking… PM him and see if he will lay that out for you… I found it very helpful and insightful…

YES!  If you are still doorknocking just because they tell you to, you are missing the boat.  Just do what WORKS!  They actually don’t CARE how you get your clients, as long as you get them.  Doorknocking is just their way of getting you out the door and talking to people.  Just don’t hide behind your phone.  That can be a trap.

BUT, if cold-calling doesn't work for you, guess what, get back out there (or find something else to do that works).

[/quote]   GT,   I was at Jones for 3 1/2 years. I was like you I didn't care for doorknocking once I got through the initial 17 months. I really struggled with an organization method to go back for follow-ups, etc. What I did was buy lists (yes the $ can add up quickly) I would then call and introduce myself and Edward Jones, ask for permission to send out some information and then follow-up and try to present a product or go for the appointment. I know this is against the grain of what you are intially taught at Jones, however, it fit me a little better. I think people assume if you are at Jones you have to doorknock to be successful and although that is their model when it comes down to it you need to do what works best for you. With that being said Broker24 is right.....if you find yourself sitting in your office staring at a call list get back out there. While doorknocking may not be the most time efficient I still feel it is the best way to actually make yourself meet people. Best of luck to you Jones is a great place to get your career going and for many a great long-term fit.

How many months/years are u expected to knock at Jones for? Also …I wonder if this might work. But u know those apartment complexes with like 1000 diff. apartments in them…what if u do one apartment after the other till u are done the whole building?

I appreciate the replies. Mrsobama I assume you are being sarcastic, but I will reply anyways. They don't really care exactly how long you knock on doors. They want you to establish a pipeline and get some kind prospect base created. I do not have a network of family or other contacts to launch me so I have strictly door knocked for clients. At this point I am just trying to be more efficient because I have hammered most of my current prospects senseless.

after all the training do you still have to door knock at Jones? also after training does St. Louis get on you if you are not adding 25 contacts a day in your computer? Has anyone door knocked all day and still not come up with 25 REAL contacts?

apartment owners are not the most qualified prospects.  Jones could care less how long you doorknock as long as you are producing.

Yes, you can doorknock all day and not get 25 new prospects.  Some days are just like that.  The next day you could get 30 by noon.

GT - If you haven't found it already, do a search on Jonesnet for the 4th call bridge.  It's a nice phone call to make to those prospects that keep leading you on.  It's a piss or get off the pot conversation.  You may need to weed out some prospects and work on replacing them with new blood.  Just like doorknocking, cold calling will work.  It's a contact sport, so make some contacts.  Put numbers on the board and nobody cares where the contacts come from.    The successful cold callers at Jones work it exactly like Apex did.  Try to make contact with them in person at some point in the first three contacts.  I know a lot of people will respond to just the phone call, but some who otherwise might not have will appreciate the extra effort of the personal visit.  I've known several Jones guys who cold call in the morning and then that afternoon hand deliver info to the warm prospects they spoke with that morning.  Whatever you do, until you get to say $50 million, don't stop prospecting.  Getting that train back on track once it stops is a killer.

Spiff, Thank you. That is extremely helpful.

I guess what everyone is saying is that it doesn't matter what you do, just do a TON of it. I need to stop worrying about what to do and just get a system down and attack it.
