Fire Solutions Series 7

Apr 25, 2012 3:01 am

Hi guys:

I am currently studying for my Series 7. I am with a firm that makes us use Fire Solutions. I have 3 weeks left until I take the test.

For those of you who have used FIRE Solutions before, this my last week of learning all new material and the next two weeks are for taking practice exams and reviews.

At this point, I am kind of fed up with FIRE Solutions. Even though I have done well on the quizzes (80-90%), the disjointed information in the text, along with badly worded/contradictory statements are giving me a headache.

I am a little discouraged because I have read more posts about people who have failed with FIRE solutions than those that have passed.

I am still staying with FIRE solutions because the trainer, Roy, believes that they are the most up to date on the new version of the test as of November 2011 and I will keep him to his word.

I am thinking about either going to the 4-day Kaplan review seminar, and/or purchasing the Kaplan Pro Q Bank? I am wondering if Kaplan is up to date in terms of the new version of the test.

Does anyone have any experience with Kaplan or any other company in terms of whether they are up to date on the new version of the Series 7?

I feel like I could probably pass with FIRE solutions alone, but I don't want to risk anything. I would also appreciate any suggestions at all on what I should do at this point.

Thank You

I don't know why the last post didn't include paragraph breaks so I'll try it again down here:

I have not used Fire Solutions but I can tell you that getting some addional information/questions would be a good idea.  Some students like classes and some don't like them at all.  4 full days is alot of time to spend on something that may not help you.  I took a ccourse for the CFA exam and stopped after 1 class becuase the teacher essentially read the notes to the class from the book.  I did not feel like I needed someone to read the book to me. Also, sometimes in these classes, you don't get a chance to ask alot of questions and focus on topics you don't need help with.

I think getting additional questions is an excellent idea.  Try questions from a few sources.  I also recommend going to the original/authoritative sources for the most up to date information.  For example, if you want to get the most current muni bond information, go to the MSRB's website.  It is a great resource.

Apr 26, 2012 12:31 am

That's a great idea on going to the source website. Do you have any recommendations of a good question bank that is up to speed with the new version of the test?

Thanks

I have not seen all of the question banks.  I doubt that prep providers have radically changed their questions due to the new content outline.  However, they might be getting some feedback as to the increased level of suitability questions, which might prompt them to modify the question banks.  At this point, I would probably go with a provider that had questions that were anticipating the changes.  Although, I think they all claim to do that.

Apr 26, 2012 10:22 pm

FIRE Solutions claim to do that. I will take their word for it and really focus on the client suitabilty aspects. I'll probably get the Kaplan Question bank for some extra reinforcement.

Thanks mstudy, although I'm new to this forum, it seems like you are the most up to date on the test and also the most involved in addressing posts from people like me.

Thank you for that!

Greetings all, here is the deal.  I am using FIRE Solutions and for reasons unknown to me, I don't think it will get me safely over the magic number.  I also purchased the Kaplan qbank and have been cranking tests out from there as well.  Here is the long and short of it, I am consistantly getting between 67 and 74 with the occasional 80+ tossed in there.  Is this good enough or should I be trolling Monster for a new position by next Tuesday?  I say this due to the fact that I am in the PMD program and my complex follows a one and done deal.  I appreciate your words.

May 2, 2012 2:50 am

what are you getting the 67-74's on? The fire solutions quizzes, tests, finals? Or are you referring to the Kaplan Qbank?

May 2, 2012 3:26 am

On the FIRE Solutions exam and sims and on sims I create on Qbank.

May 2, 2012 3:41 am

hmmm. Are you going back to review why you got the questions wrong? Im not as far as you but I am about to start taking exams. I have done the first 2 midterms that test on modules 1-6. I didn't do so well, I got a 74% and a 64% on the first two, but I didn't go back and review a whole lot when I took those so I am reviewing everything now.

How did you do on the quizzes? What was your 1st attempt average on all the quizzes?

May 2, 2012 4:12 am

I was getting 80+ on the quizzes leading up to the finals and sims.  The one thing that has stuck out like a sore thumb for me is that there are a bunch of questions on the finals and sims that weren't even mentioned during the modules etc.

May 2, 2012 4:29 am

did you watch all the tutorials? I know they're hard to follow but he mentions things in the tutorials that are sometimes not in the written text.

May 4, 2012 7:03 pm

I used Fire and felt the same as you in the same spot with nearly the same scores.  I also contemplated using additional resources like going to the Kaplan class. I decided to not waste the time and focus on reviewing ALL of my final exam questions that Fire offers and the explainations of the answers. For the wrong answers I went back into the section to re-read what I was getting wrong.  I scored in the 80's on the actual test.  The key is to review everything, even the explaination to the right answers and drill down on what you get wrong.  Make sure to watch tutorial 18 and 14 a couple times..

May 4, 2012 7:15 pm

Thanks Alphasnail, I really needed to hear that.  I am going  to take your advice and do that this weekend.  I will let you guys know how it goes.

May 4, 2012 8:33 pm

Best of luck! One thing to remember in taking it that helped me was looking at the question, if you have no idea read the answers and work backwards.  Meaning if you can take what they give you and eliminate what you know is not the answer it will bring you to what is.

I would not spend the money on the Kaplan class. I took the class prior to joining my firm and, yes, it was very good. The problem is that they use different methods for helping you do things like options. So, you would have to unlearn everything. However, I did also have access to the QBank and I found it to be an invaluable tool in the home stretch.

The QBank is very flexible. If I recall correctly it was less than $100.

Good luck.

Very true.. When you that deep in stick with what you know and focus on what you don't..

Well done! Now get after the 66!

May 8, 2012 3:58 am

Congratulations!

What was your score? How did your actual score compare to all those Fire solutions finals?

May 22, 2012 2:22 am

hey guys.

I passed my 7 today with an 87%.

My average exam scores from Fire Solutions was an average of 85%.

I thought my actual Series 7 exam was harder than the Fire Solutions exams.

With that said, I still hate Fire Solutions and would not recommend them to anyone. If I had spent as mucht time as I did studying, but with a different provider, I probably would've scored above 90%.

May 22, 2012 3:40 am

Now please tell the class what the difference between a 72 and a 97 is? Let me help you.. Nothing at all. Don't be that person bragging that you got a high score, it's a bad look and just means you studied too much and lost time prospecting clients.

May 22, 2012 5:47 am

Im not bragging about my score. I trying to state that Fire Solutions is not the best material.

Let me say it another way. Let's say I got a 70% and failed, I would've said...  "If I had put in the same amount of time studying but used a different material other than Fire Solutions, I probably would've passed."

How am I suppose to prospect clients when I am not licensed? Please tell me because I would love to do so...

May 22, 2012 11:42 am

Just because you are licensed does not mean you can't build social relationships with people.  I'm not talking about conducting a full on meeting to determine planning and tolerance, more of becoming "known" to people that down the road you may want to work with.  You can be the smartest person in the world, but if a person doesn't like you they won't buy a thing from you.

May 22, 2012 4:19 pm

NeedToPass, I did not see your statement about 87% as bragging.  However, I can see how some people might interpret the part about getting over 90% as a little too much information, so too speak.  I don't see it that way, though.

May 24, 2012 10:50 pm

alphasnail:

yes, i've been doing that before when I first got hired. I've just been "marketing" myself.

Anyways, moving forward... I've started studying with the Training Consultants material for the 66. I like how they've trimmed all the fat compared to Fire Solutions. The manual is less than half as thick as Fire Solutions.

I think it is a non linear program and it is very frustrating that the media is not comprehensive.

Dec 7, 2012 12:26 pm

The actual CCIE examination is greater than merely a normal several choice or even created examination. Along with which component can be a intense 8 hr research examination. http://www.certsquare.com/braindumps/PMI-001.php

I am currently studying for my Series 7, thinking about taking it in about a month and a half. I think I am spending way to much trying to memorize every single detail. I spent the last 2 weeks (on and off) reading the municipla securities chapter. Of course, I know it represents a lot of the exam but am I overthinking it??? I am using the Kaplan book, audio and practice tests. My collegues say I should spend more time doing practice exams rather than studying the book over and over.

You should be reading the book and doing questions. You should not rely more on answering questions because you will likely not see those questions on the test.
