AG Edwards

I word searched them on monster dot com. They seem to be recruiting all over the nation.

Do they start trainees off with a base salary? I’m not working for a draw. If somebody could let me know, I’d appreciate it. It will save me the time of filling out the online application.

Ah, the joy of dealing with a lazy Gen X slacker.

I’m afraid I’ll have to agree with you on this one Newbie.  Starting out with this attitude doesn’t bode well for success in this business!

Safe yourself the trouble dude.  Look in another field.  Perhaps apply at a bank as a teller or loan officer.

Hey slacker AG Edwards pays a modest salary starting out, I think.  But ::gasp::  I could be wrong and it might be a draw.

Worse than that, after a year or two you’re on FULL COMMISSION, and then you might have to work reallly hard before you make a lot of money.

Have you consider taking the civil service exam?

Who are you kidding, you never worked an honest day in your life.

Slim, this is a career and not a job.  You have to think like a business owner and not an employee.  Otherwise, you will not succeed.

You will be making a serious mistake by letting 1st year salary be the determinent on how you make a 30+ year career decision.

And on what basis would you say that, junior?

The punk is a slacker which is why he wants to be in the biz.  He reads that it's the surest way to be a goof off later in life because guys like you tell him that it is.

It's a theme that infests these discussions--work hard for a few months and coast for the rest of your life.

That appleals to the slackers.

For the umpteenth time--the idea of being able to coast on trails is too new to be truly tested.  There has been precisely ZERO bear markets since the industry morphed from transaction oriented to asset gathering.

There are a great many wiser types who are just biding our time till almost all "advisors" fail because their clients race to cash and hard assets such as real estate and precious metals.

NASDy, you really shouldn’t include yourself in that ‘wiser’ group…you’ve never posted anything that would lead anyone to believe that you’re any wiser than an amoeba.

Good point.  In fact, it takes a lot of work to maintain a full-size book.   You're still managing accounts, maintaining relationships and farming referrals.

Being an established broker just LOOKS like an easy job compared to the amount of work it took to get there.

Ironic the timing as I read this Newbie, because you see I just got back from taking about an hour and a half for a golf lesson.  But, I started work at about 7:45 this morning, and now I'm eating a sandwich at my desk while I catch up on emails.

I have a board meeting tonight for a non profit I help, and then I'll probably spend a couple hours reading research after tucking the kids into bed.

Yep that's me....a slacker!

Joeboy are you looking for a pat on the head because you started work a few minutes before 8?  I'll bet that Indyone is in his office at 6 AM on a regular basis.  Hell, even worthless middle managers like me were on the subways before 7 AM.

You sound like one of those guys who says, "I'm a nice guy, I don't beat my wife."

You don't get attaboys for doing the bare minimum.

And as I've told you before, you're getting priceless career coaching for no cost.

Do you really think that getting to work at 7:45 is something that is a big deal?

Or reading some research after the kids have gone to bed?

Don't you suppose that every big hitter in the biz works a hell of a lot harder than that?
