Advice 4 new hire

Dec 22, 2009 6:23 pm

I'm starting with Edward Jones Jan. 4th and wanted some positive feedback from new and veteran FA's with EJ.

Besides concentrating on getting the licensing, is there anything that would be beneficial to know/understand before KYC?   I've read a lot about new advisors having the sales part down but struggling with the product knowledge part.  If true, what can be done beforehand to be better prepared?

I agree with Chief. Learning about products or trying to master sales skills is not the concern early on. You will learn each as you go and just from repetition you will improve in both areas. Jones will give you a good foundation in each area to get you started. Find out the prospecting method you feel most comfortable with (residential doorknocking, business doorknocking, cold calling, seminars) and start devising a plan to gather as many names as you can. Its all about gathering prospects your first two years. The ability to sell and what to sell is irrelevant without someone to buy it from you.

Thanks Chief and Ron for the advice.

So how’s it going?  Should be getting close to your series 7 test.  Any news?
