Surety Bond
Any RIAs out there required to obtain a surety bond? Any suggestions for who to obtain the bond from? Nebraska requires a $25,000 surety bond.
here in puerto rico you either get 10,000 for the bond, or have 25,000 in the bank…
it sucks, but 25k in surety bond its ridiculous … good luck
Over the course of the next several years MUCH larger bonds will be REQUIRED, count on it!
I just got quoted a premium of $750 for a $25,000 surety bond. That’s 3% of the bond value. Does anyone have any experience shopping for these? Is this a good price?
Were you required to obtain a surety bond because you have discretion over client accounts or is this just a minimum requirement of RIAs in your state regardless of custody or discretion?
Discretion or not, custody or not, it is a minimum requirement of the state.
Based on the lack of responses, I’m guessing not many people are interested in this topic. But in case it helps anybody, I was able to find a second bonding agency that offered the $25,000 bond for a $375 annual premium.

did you ever get your bond? I am giving serious thought to moving to SC where I will need to get a bond. Was your cost 375 a month or annually?
Why SC?

It’s one of the choices my wife and I have talked about. SC is the only one of the choices the had the bond requirement. I am trying to look at it from all angles.
Yes, I did end up with a $25K surety bond. I got quotes from two companies. The first was $750, the second was $375. Those are both per year. I’m not sure if I can mention the companies on here or not. I’ll send you a PM with more info.
