Selling Against Indies

Do any indies here have any input on how to effectively sell against RayJay et al. without compromising a future jump?

You try to sell against firms?  What does that have anything to do against taking a client from another advisor?

I sell against the incumbent broker.

Deekay: current clients who have been prospected by a friend at RayJay are who I am referring to.

How do you avoid bashing the Indy system without killing your own chances of moving the client later?

Devil’s Advocate: in this situation it could be hard, because we both know (and they like) the indy broker.

[The following suggestion is a joke, and is not meant to be taken seriously]

Go online and buy some of the weirdest porn magazines you can find (I'll leave that up to your imagination). Print up some fake mailing address labels with the Indy guy's name and address, and stick them on the front of the magazines. Leave the magazines around town (library, churches, waiting rooms, daycare centers, etc.). If you play your cards right, you will be able to get more clients from him than just these people, seeing as how he will probably have to leave town.

Sell your ideas.  If you can't sell that, what's the point of being in this business?

They aren't leaving because ray jay is so great. They're leaving because they're not happy with YOU. Find out what it is and fix it.

I like the porn suggestion.

Well, noboby has left yet, because they've made great returns and we've been in contact regularly. I'm just catching wind of what this guy has been doing.

just be professional.

most indy's work out of rinky dink offices and wear polo shirts & dockers.
