RIAs using PR

Question for the RIAs in the group -

Has anyone had any success using PR to get your name out. I have spoken to a few people who tell me it is not that hard to get articles in our local paper.   I had looked at this before when I was with a b/d, but the compliance dept shot the idea down.   Thanks for an input

Articles & press-releases aren’t everything they’re cracked up to be.

What you want is an interview with the editor.  If the editor knows who you are and you make yourself available for interviews and comments, NOW you've got something.

Agreed.  I have come to know our local busines editor well, and he calls maybe every other week/once a month for a story line.  I have been getting more and more people commenting on my quotes in the paper.  It will not bring me any new clients, but it is that “top of mind” awareness that helps from an exposure perspective.  So when I am referred to someone, they will be familiar with my name (this is just one part of my PR efforts).

If you are a member of a local Advisor association (i.e. FPA), you might considering calling your local chapter to see what community events they are involved in which could lead to good media exposure for your firm.  Good Luck with your marketing efforts.
