Email marketing

Has anybody developed an email marketing campaign that has brought in business.  I have always thought that it wouldn’t work in our business.  Any thoughts on this.

I think the only thing that works in this busines (from an e-mail perspective) is the “go here and download our free whitepaper on…”.

Maybe it's because I am in the business, but I download those all the time.  Always looking for new ideas, perspectives.

B24 - I agree in premise.  It seems like the only group I know of that responds well to email campaigns are FAs…unless you’re BondGuy - you have to get him with a telegraph.

It seems to work well for firms like Fisher.  I think that’s all they do…

I’m doing it now. I use google adwords to get them to my landing page, where I offer them a whitepaper and capture name and email. (facebook is great for looking up if they are a kid or adult). Then I send them my monthly newsletters and market pieces I publish myself. It is very automated and takes very little time to maintain once it is setup.

I don’t get enough clients from this to make this my only marketing effort, more like added gravy.

How specific are you google ad words? For example… If i type in “investments, state” does your page pop up, or are you most localized than that?

For the broader search terms, I come up on the first page of google. Like Investment Advisor, my city - I am the top choice. (seo positioning)

For terms like money manager, 401k rollovers, etc I use adwords. I have about 500 keywords that I am using. A good book to start is Adwords for Dummies. Its under 20 bucks on Amazon and they give your $25 adword dollars to spend.

I am using a 25 mile radius from my office as my target area. Outside of that range google doesn’t show my ads.

It took a few months to get it refined, but I am stating to slowly see better and better results. Not many advisors are doing this (or allowed due to compliance).

There is someone on this board (I don’t want to throw him under the bus) but he is very good with adwords.

Perhaps he might chime in here and give us his opinion - he is much better qualified than I am.

Email marketing works. You can’t do it through Aweber, constant contact  or anything like that. You need a Mail Transfer Agent and several servers to do the job.

You must work for an independent since wirehouses flip out if you try ppc marketing.

Otane-

Assuming you are SPAM compliant - where are you getting enough email addresses to require such a set up?

He puts an “Adult Services” listing on Craig’s List…fills up the pipeline pretty quickly.

I use e-mail marketing.  It’s been very successful.   Unfortunately, I can’t talk about what I do without jeopardizing my anonymity.  I only e-mail people who have given me permission to e-mail.

It is called Spam Can compliant and this allows the person to opt out of your email. Almost everyone is on a opt in list since most people have signed up for some type of newsletter, bought a product, and etc., and forgot to read the fine print that says they can resell your information.

email addresses are not the problem, having the right set up is. Meaning your ip’s will eventually get blocked by spam and filter and etc., It is really an expensive process, and I recommend to do ppc if you can.
