Starting a new forum for people to share success stories, stats, advice, motivation...

I work on a team with a guy who has been in the business for 30 years. His book is very very big and my primary role is pretty much everything; help manage the book, the investment selection, as well as business development. I've been in the business for a year and have had some great success thus far, but now I am trying to build my prospect list again. I've purchased corporate lists and have had many conversations with people but no one is willing to pull the trigger, or they are do-it-yourselfers. In this market I know it's a great time to prospect. I'm a fan of cold-calling because I think it's the most efficient way to get business. I've gone to networking events and find myself running into other BD's who are trying to do the same thing.

Most recent success: ran into a personal connection that I haven't seen in awhile when I was out grabbing a beer after work. He is a partner at his company and happened to ask what I was doing now for work and blah blah. Long story short...he grilled me on the market and his pessimistic views on brokers as a whole( although he has 3), but he liked my answers and wants to sit down and discuss more about what I can offer.

Most recent failure: not making enough calls, being lazy/nervous about rejection, figuring out a rebuttal for the do-it-yourselfers, wanting to get off the phone quick.

Hopefully this thread will get more people to engage and share success and failure, and bounce ideas of each other.
