Just curious if anyone had put in an application to be an approved advisor for the NFL players assc.  Any positive or negative thoughts would be appreciated.

I think there is a $1,000 non refundable fee, so if they don’t approve you they keep it… The goal to getting professional players is through their agents. I have one( low level nfl guy, never really plays but income is about $365K/year) he has a lawyer for an agent and I met him through the lawyer.

At my BD conference last year, I talked with a guy who had it. He said it was somewhere in the $1K range every year as well. He said it was not worth it other than to impress prospects.

Also, NFL players can pick any advisor they want, but this is just there "approved list".

I have 2 NFL players and 1 former, mid level guys. I don't have my NFLPA. I got the application and decided against it. I'm not sure what the benefit is, my current clients don't care about it much. The annual fee is one thing but if my memory is correct there is annual conference you have to go to and some extra compliance requirements/ record keeping as well. I agree with the previous post--impress prospects and your middle aged clients who still think they can "play ball".
