Hot August Nights

Woo hoo.  Back from Hot August Nights and continuing to screw off the rest of the week....err I mean vacation.  Acutally a few of my clients were there with their cars and we went out to dinner one night together.  Can I write part of this trip off......I wonder?

Watched the cruise 2 nights in front of the Nuggets and, global warming be damned, was basically the motto of the crowd and the cruise participants.  Loved it.    http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f213/Lugnut67/orangeandredfenders.jpg   Why would you buy a new Corvette when for a mere 15,000 more you could own this! http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f213/Lugnut67/ModifiedVet.jpg   http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f213/Lugnut67/RenoDowntown08.jpg   Got to cruise one night in my friend's 67Chevelle with a 427 engine.  When we parked it in the casino parking garage so we could watch the rest of the cruise, it set off about 8 car alarms on two levels of the garage, just from the ground pounding vibrations of the engine.  We had to sneak out of the garage, laughing our asses off. Eat your hearts out.

Very cool stuff!

I remember in high school we took a field trip to the GM assembly plant in Baltimore where the Chevelles and GTO's were made. The year was 1967. We drooled as the cars were being driven off the assembly line and then noted that one goat wouldn't start. It was dark blue with a black vinyl top. Unusual to see one with a vinyl top, especially considering a large number of the Chevelles were so stripped of options that many were radio delete cars. Different strokes! Some guys pushed the GTO off the line and onto another line that was  all GTO's. We asked what happens to cars that can't be driven off the line? The forman told us that reasonable attempt is made to trouble shoot and fix the car. If the problem can't be located on the first try the car is stripped of parts or just taken to the crusher as is. It's cheaper to crush the car than to fix it. The chasis/body minus front end get crushed no matter what. We all looked at the line of GTO's in the won't run line with a "tell us it ain't so" look on our faces. To this day I don't know if the guy was being straight with us.   Babs, sounds like a nice way to spend a few days.

No.  This is a modified Corvette.  Not an old one but a new one manufactured on a new frame to look like an old Vette.  It has all the current running gear, engine, width length etc plus some extras in performance. Basically a new car but retro fitted to look old.  The cost is 15K MORE than a new regular Vette.  I think the price was about $115,000.     There is no such thing as a 15K Corvette

I’d still go with the new 2009 Vet and spend the extra $15k on an older “project” car to restore.
No kiddin?  Which motor was in it?  The LS6 or LS7?  All the typical modern options as a new Vette?

StingRays are gay, you can pick them up for under $15K
LS6 engine I think in that model but you can ask for a LS7 for more $$.  Built on a 98 to 2002 C5 Vette chassis. Carbon fiber body to look like a 62 but with the wider and longer body.  Oh yeah!!   All the bells and whistles plus.  Built to order if you want to pony up $115,000

Neat pictures, Babs. We had friends who say that it is the BEST car show, period.

BondGuy- We have a 1969 Camaro, but my husband is a huge GTO fan. His daily driver is actually a 2004 GTO that gets 480 horse. He did a lot of nice updates to the car to "class it up", including the signature hood. He is actually doing body work to restore a 67' GTO in our garage right now.  Boys and their toys
