Favre's Return: Thumbs Up Or Down?

Jul 11, 2008 11:45 pm

Not sure what to make of Favre’s purported return to the NFL. The Falcons could sure use a good quarterback,…a good running back,…some good receivers,…linebackers,… Ahhh hell, just replace the whole damn team!

I respect Favre and he is a great player, but he is completely overrated by the media. I am tired of hearing about him because he has used and abused my BEARS for 15 yrs. I think he needs to call it a career. If he is going to hold the entire Packer franchise hostage, which is fine by me, the packers should welcome him back and when camp starts tell him he is holding the clipboard. Favre will quit immediately and the the Packers wont have to pay him. Game over and Rodgers takes the job.

I like Favre.  He makes a good story.  I’d just rather see him in the AFC for my team’s sake.

I thought they were MY Bears.

They are everyone’s Bears. The real America’s Team !

He is a pain in the rear, he does this every year at this time. Plus I think he is overrated. Durable, yes. One ring though, thanks to Reggie White.

I love Brett Farve. I’ve never met him but a friend of mine who played for the Packers hunts with him and has nothing but good things to say about him. That being said…It’s time to step away. He made his legacy with the Packers. Who wants to remember…

The best chance for the Packers to go to the Super Bowl is with Brett Favre.  He may be a diva, but he is still a great QB.

I think it’s a piece of crap they way he’s doing it.  I love what he’s done and I don’t hold changing his mind against him, but holding the Packers hostage is a load of crap and he knows it.  He knows he’s not worth what his contract calls for as a backup.  The honorable thing to do would be a sign & trade (for whatever Daniel Snyder is willing to pay) out of the division where the Pack would at least get something for him and not have to face him 2-3X next year.  This crap of changing his mind 16 times and deciding to come back (and ask for an unconditional release) after his team has already made moves to go on without him is BS.  If I were the GM, I’d keep him on the roster until he agreed to a sign & trade.  We’ll see just how badly he wants to play…

As a Colts fan, I have no skin in this game...just calling it as I see it...he's not showing much class in my opinion, to a franchise that made him a hall of fame lock.

With the Packers not wanting to release him, I think he stays retired. Move on with your life, Brett!

This is more fun than talking about the market!

It drives me crazy when these once-great veterans try to come back so many times. Maybe it works for them, but they (IMHO) tarnish their legacy and screw up team’s plans. Jordan did this, Clemens did this (oh, and he went big!), Bonds is still trying to do this, Ricky Henderson, the list goes on and on. I think great players should decide when to leave and then leave. This lingering around is the final impression people have of once-great players.

I fairly certain that the Packers will not be retiring his number with him still playing in the league for another team. I am also fairly certain that with the crap at receiver for the Vikings the only person with 5 TD’s would be Peterson.

Ice, I am not saying he is washed up. I just prefer these legends to do the last big-hooray. Ride off in the sunset on their horse. Give the big “I’m the luckiest man on the face of the Earth…” farewell speach. Instead, they try to reincarnate themselves over and over, and it just tarnishes their image. Growing up in New England, I was used to the big send offs. The Birds, Parish’s, Mchales, Yasztremski, Rice, Grogan, Hannah, Bourque, Neely, Buckner (ohhhh, Nooooo!). You get the picture. I hate guys that spends 17 years with one team, then their last 3 with 3 different teams playing part time backup. Stupid. Besides, what the hell is Favre trying to prove?? Do you think he really jsut loves the game? I don’t know.

Jerry Rice as a Raider or Bronco Eddie George as a Cowboy Emmit Smith as a Card Joe Montana as a Chief.   which one of these do not belong?  i vaguely remember eddie george period, let alone as a cowboy. anyway, just found it funny to see his name listed with 3 of the all-time greats.

Maybe Favre’s like everyone else in the world…it’s not about the game, but about the money. I don’t know his financials, but that many zero’s would buy a couple more years of luxury.

Favre seems so slow that he doesn't get the fact that he is causing all this circus. Go away Bret!

I say kudos to the Packers for sticking to their guns…it’d be nice if more guys, HOFers or not, were held to their word.
