Ever bought a suit from Express?

Sep 24, 2009 11:47 pm

There was a thread on suit a while back.. I know, I know.

Thing is I'm a lean and mean 24 year old. I'm not happy with my Men's Wearhouse suits... Need something more modern/trim. Any suggestions?

Mr. Jones, if you are lean, an Express suit is the way to go. Especially if you have narrow shoulders. They are designed around Express/Abercrombie models.

I'm lean, but have broad shoulders, so it won't work for me.

You're one of those "Metro-sexuals", aren't you?  C'Mon, admit it.  You have the clear, glossy man-fingernails, you smell better than my wife, you spend 60 bucks on haircuts, and your bathroom cabinet looks like the counter at Macy's.

Not even close, I have a military haircut (which my wife does in the bathroom), I don’t actually have a bathroom cabinet, b/c my wife’s stuff takes up all of the space. And I don’t even wear suits most of the time. Only at court, for group presentations or for formal events.

However, I used to date a girl who worked at Express and would constantly buy me clothes. Wasn’t my style, since I’m a little rough around the edges.   But I learned a lot about “fit” and “cut”.

The only jewelry I wear is my wedding ring, I shave only once every couple of days and I tend to dress like House. My shoes are inexpensive, my clothes are wrinkled.

And I am one of the few people who has no scent. I don’t use deodorant. Or cologne. In fact, when I do shave, I use soap.

I’m the guy at the regional meetings that never wore a suit.

I was also the guy in the military whose patches were hand-sewn and not very well, who never shined his boots (when we had to shine them. really polish is just for protection, you only need to put a little bit on). I pushed the limits of the shaving policy and wore the same uniform five days a week, no matter how much I sweated in it.

I might not even be human (so says my wife). But I did get a pedicure once with my little girl.

Any suggestions?
Not sure where you live, but I bought a really nice Burberry suit from Saks Off 5th Avenue for $500, marked down from $1,300.  I have also purchased several suits from Nordstrom Rack in the $400-$500 range that sell in the Nordstrom stores for $900 or so.  And I have found great deals on Hugo Boss suits at their outlet store, paid around $400 for a $900 suit.   I prefer heavy wool suits with a thick tie and a pocket square to compliment it.    I don't have to wear suits, but I really like wearing them.  I hate Men's Wearhouse and would never personally purchase a suit from Express.
Sep 25, 2009 7:27 pm

actually, of the three suits I own, the one I bought from Express a couple years ago fits me the best by FAR.  The jacket is perfect, although I did have the pants hemmed a bit.  Before this job, it was just an interview/wedding/big meeting suit because I didn’t need it on a daily basis.  Probably been worn 20-25 times and drycleaned, still holding up wonderfully.

What kind of woman? Plenty of younger ones, but mature, married women?

I loved it.  I’m glad they made it clear (at least to me) that it would be the only episode of that kind during the season.  It was one of those “I could watch that once, but they better revert to the traditional after this” type of episodes.  I also don’t think that House will become “softer” after that episode either.  Fox knows what got them to the status they are at today, and that is a grizzly, pain-in-the-ass House.

Sep 26, 2009 7:30 pm

Express isn’t bad, but it does have a real slim fit. If you search a few online sites and maybe even some outlet stores you could get your hands on a Zegna suit for a realistic price. Buy one and  you’ll never get another brand, perfect fit and it really adds a nice v-shape to your back!

I agree with that (about it being a one time episode).  What's the consensus on Olivia Wilde?  I always thought she was okay looking, but after being voted #1 in Maxim - I guess people find her insanely attractive.
Express isn't bad, but it does have a real slim fit. Sep 27, 2009 12:46 pm

Cuddy was hot until she got that ridiculous haircut. Olivia Wilde is a little weird-looking, but Cameron is pretty hot. She didn’t use to be though.

I also hope that last episode was a fluke… I do like Andre Braugher a lot… But I like House because is a c*** and right a lot… If he is just right a lot then he will get boring… I thought the show was best when he was interviewing new replacements. I thought Taub and Kutner where great(That is a valid reason to hate the Obama campaign, they took Kutner from HOUSE).

I got into Lie to Me last season also… Similar show.

There is suppose to be a spin-off of that goofy P.I. that House hired last season(season before?) I thought that guy was real entertaining.

I found a website that chronicles all House episodes and where to get the crazy shirts he wears… Got a couple…

Cuddy also played a call-girl on the West Wing for a few seasons

Do you mean she is leaving because of her rare and deadly disease - or are you on top of the latest gossip and I haven't caught it?   I can't make a prediction of when she will leave, but I would wager it will not before she participates in a girl/girl scene (if there has already been THAT scene, then shoot me for missing it).
