Ok so the rankings came out, but who thinks there are some teams that are going to surprise people… Care to name them.

I think in the SEC: Ole Miss and Tenn(mainly TENN) will be better than people think. I would love to see Florida lose to somebody

ACC: Georgia Tech…

Big 12: Love Oklahoma, qb, and that rb who was injured last year can’t think of his name, but he was money when he played…

Big 10: Illinois…lots of talent.

PAC 10: Hate USC this year, no qb, lost a lot of defense(linebackers)

Aug 25, 2009 7:41 pm

Watch for Oklahoma State in the Big XII also, should surprise a lot of people this year.  USC will definitely be down this year, but look at the rest of the conference, who is their competition?

SEC and Big XII will again be the two dominant conferences and will rematch in the National Championship.

I’m such a homer…Virginia Tech will be in the title game!!!  Tyrod Taylor will emerge as a top 3 Heisman candidate!

Ole Miss is preseason number 8, they will probably end up no better than that. They do have an easy schedule though. UT no better than 8 wins but that is a big improvement. Georgia could easily disappoint.... USC has an easy way being in the PAC. The Big 12 huh? Oklahoma and Texas duel it out again.....
Aug 25, 2009 10:37 pm

I think oklahoma, more so than texas… Texas lost a lot more people(D-Line) and they still have no running back to help take some pressure off Colt…

Aug 26, 2009 2:18 am

Michigan will rebound and have a good year vs. a weak schedule.

If Vtech wins their first game watch from them to run the ACC.

Aug 26, 2009 2:18 am

G Tech is way too strong for VT

Aug 26, 2009 2:37 am

G tech is suspect in their secondary - Plus Georgia is going to roll them. Not that I care but since I’m in ACC country it’s all I hear.

GO BLUE

Aug 26, 2009 3:37 am

I only know one thing. ND will make a good bowl based on their name and soft schedule. They will then be hammered by 4 TD’s.

You are out of your mind if you don’t think USC will be a great team this year. They always seem to be 10 players deep in every position.

They will win the PAC 10 handily, and play in a major bowl game.

Depends how fast and it what condition that ugly qb comes back in… They have 2 weeks until they play miami… missed the actual game, but judging from the box score, when your rbs average 5.0 yds/carry why even throw…

Georgia got smacked by a team that isn’t known for the their defense…didn’t joe cox play for a little while a different year before they pulled him in an attempt to salvage the season.

GT runs that weird offense that Navy does(ohio st looked confused for a while and they had some time to prepare) but with better athletes.

Only because no one plays in the PAC 10. Oregon, done, lost their rb and the team looked terrible, Ore St, once in a while they show up, Stanford, good coach not enough talent or consistency, ariz, seriously, washington, recovering from ty(although I bet Notre dame would take him back compared to charlie)

Why does Illinois continue to schedule their first game against Missouri… they are always playing catch-up the rest of the season and always lose a decent player to injury…

TENN is awesome… 250+ yards on ground another 200+ by air… This team lacked talent and fundamentals for the last 3 years… Now they have some new talent(Bryce Brown), and great coaches… Of course the test comes against a real opponent(but this game would have been 28-23 had fulmer been coaching)

You’ve lost your mind about Tenn.  - awesome? Who did they play? We’ll see how they play against a school that’s been in D1 for more than a year.

You will see on Saturday...... Of course, that's only against a PAC 10 team......

I know, I am full of hypocritical statements. Will crown TENN early champs of SEC based on if they beat UCLA, but hate USC because they only play weak competition and the pac-10(is there a difference)

Sep 10, 2009 2:23 am

The Pac-10 is always “weak” to all of the Midwesterners, Southerners, and Easterners.  Then, bowl season starts and the Pac-10 shines–year, after year, after year, after frickin’ year.  The MWC and WAC are better than you think, too.  Football crossed the Mississippi river a long time ago, boys.  Most of the creativity and evolution of offensive football has come from this part of the country.  (Thus, “West Coast Offense”.)  Out West, the best athletes play offense.  In other areas, the best athletes tend to be on the defensive side of the ball.  There is probably more parity in D-I football in the present that in any period during my lifetime.  That’s why it’s just so damn fun to watch!

C'mon now. Let's take the PAC-10 they have 9 National Champions in the modern age of which 7 of those are USC, the other two are UCLA with one and Washington with one. The SEC has 17 National Champions in the same time period with Alabama having 7 , LSU and Florida with 3 apiece and Tennessee with 2 and Georgia and Auburn with one each. Whether an area of the country is an innovator or not the measure is championships.  Football may have crossed the Mississippi a long time ago but championships with the exception of USC have stayed in the SEC....I mean even Vanderbilt went to a bowl game last year and won......When was the last time Stanford did??  Was that 2000? You have Stanford, Washington and Washington State which are all weaker than any of the SEC teams...... The SEC is a far more balanced and tougher conference and that is why more champions come from the conference. USC is a great program but outside of them there is not really much to brag about....Last year UCLA beat UT at home but you saw what kind of team UT had last year...weak... There is more parity in college football, that I will agree with you about. Enjoy your season I know I will....
Sep 12, 2009 11:42 pm

Pac-10 is not as weak as everyone says but top to bottom it’s not strong.  To me there is much more balance between the conferences this year.

Oh, and how about the Vols? lol  They suck.

Sep 13, 2009 9:57 pm

UCLA punks Tennessee (again) at home, USC beats Ohio State in front of 106,000 not-so-friendly fans, and Oregon comes back to beat Purdue.  MWC member TCU throttles Virgnia, and Boise St. blanks MAC member Miami (OH).  Keep in mind the relatively good week the MAC had with wins over Colorado and Michigan St.  Yep, we play football out West boys.  USC, TCU, BYU, Cal, Texas, and Boise St. all look to be for real.

TCU beat Virginia a team that was beat by William and Mary D2 the week before.

Florida will beat the Vols by 20

USC was favored to win over Ohio State

Miami (OH) is garbage

Oregon had a nice win but Purdue is a mid-tier Big Ten school.  It would be the 3rd best in the Pac-10

You left out the following:

Stanford lost to Wake Forrest
Hawaii beat Washington St.
Minnesota beat Air Force
Tulsa beat New Mexico

BTW:  Not a freaking chance you can claim any Texas team is in the west.  Try saying that to a Texan - It is it’s own country.

I wouldn't say that UCLA punked Tennessee really more accurate to say that Tennessee punked themself. BYU looks very good I will grant you that one.

For the last 90 seconds against Nebraska, this was the prediction of the year!  For the previous 58:30 of the game, this was the worst prediction in history.
