Caffeine

Jan 25, 2010 4:16 pm

Wondering what other brokers consumption habits are, since we all work in a relatively aggressive profession that requires constant high energy.

I, for one, have weaned myself to a pot of coffee in the morning and a sugar free Red Bull in the afternoon (Was at like 4 pots a day). What keeps you wired all day?

Jan 25, 2010 4:21 pm

I’ve got that Bottomless cup from Brueggar’s.  Started in October and it runs through the rest of the year.  I get about three large’s a day.  Then at night, when I need to stay up late to work on something, a little MD.

Jan 25, 2010 4:28 pm

WTF??!!

You drink an entire pot of coffee, and you USED TO drink 4??  Is that a joke?   Thank God that Red Bull is sugar free....
Usually I start with Starbucks and then move to Kettle One by noon.
Liar. Anyone who drinks Ketel One knows how to spell it.

No, no joke. Thought that was actually a little light. I have a good friend that has between 6-8. I would think that was an exaggeration but I've seen him do it.

As you can see, I'm not much of a morning person.

POTS of coffee, or CUPS of coffee?  That’s just insane.

I think there is just an age difference... I think the older you are the more coffee your generation drank.   I don't drink coffee(smells wonderful in those stores, but tastes like sh*t). I am part of the pop, monster, redbull generation.

I don’t know how many gallons of coffee it is, but it’s at least a dozen trips to the can.

<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I drink 4-6 pint glass of black tea made with two tea bags each. In addition, I drink 2-3 Double Espresso every day.

Jan 26, 2010 3:28 pm

What is wrong with you people?  Do you guys get any sleep??  Holy crap.

Jack, does that make you a double tea-bagger?   Sorry, couldn't resist.
Jan 26, 2010 4:02 pm

B24  .

As to sleep  I get around 6-7 hours per day.

I have cut down on my caffeine consumption. In collage, I use to drink 4-6 double espresso per day, plus maybe 6-8 cups of coffee. ( I did not sleep a lot back then maybe 4-6 hours per day)

Jan 26, 2010 5:00 pm

Wow.  That much caffeine would find me looking like Gary Busey on Red Bull.

Jan 26, 2010 5:25 pm

I agree with Chief.  Coffee smells great, but tastes like crap.  I’ll drink it every so often, but by the time I’m done doctoring it up, it might as well be hot chocolate.

I have a QT (regional quick stop chain) 32oz Coke every morning.  Once in a while I'll get a second soda in the afternoon, but only if I'm really dragging or if I have lunch with a buddy.  The rest of the day is water only.  My kidneys start to hurt if I have more soda than that.  I can't imagine what 4 pots of coffee does to your kidneys.
Jan 26, 2010 7:27 pm

Kidneys are overrated.

Jan 26, 2010 8:15 pm

Kidneys are for p*ssies.

Seriously?  Room temperature coffee?  I understand steaming hot,  and I actually like the frozen stuff from Starbucks (coffee flavored Slurpees), but room temp?  Now that’s just wrong.

Jan 26, 2010 9:56 pm
Yep.  I’ve never met anyone else that shares the same taste.  I’ll drink iced coffees & lattes, but not hot coffee.  I brew my pot the night before, so it’s 68 degrees when I wake up.

You didn't actually expect me to do something like a normal person, did you Spiff?
Good lord.  Are you that little old lady that goes to McDonald's and orders 1 hamburger and a cup of coffee and takes 35 minutes to eat it?

Jan 27, 2010 12:33 am

I don’t know if we can ban him for room temp coffee.  That stuff is pretty nasty.  You gotta be some kind of nervy to drink it.

I love those frozen ones(if only they would decrease the price and not cause me to crap all afternoon) plus it is a little odd ordering them when it is 4 degrees outside

That is a crazy amount of coffee, have you ever asked your doctor if that is safe?  Are you teeth brown from drinking that much?  When you sweat does it smell like a Starbucks?
Jan 31, 2010 5:42 am

I am new to the field, but found my addiction day trading forex managed accounts.  Waking up at 3am daily with the london market, I was beating down Starbucks doors as they opened at 5 most mornings.  Generally I have 10-12 shots a day now so it looks like I am well prepared for my new path.

Starbucks absolutely loves me though, they sent me 2 free Gold Cards 2 months before the program started in 2008.  I miss my discount now that they abandoned that program.

My Lord! Some of you guys are hard core. I drink two cans of Diet soda and wish I could stop. … There was former EJ broker, now a sale consultant with AFunds who told us to quit caffeine and just drink water. Said we’d be more productive and even keeled. Make sense.

Jan 31, 2010 11:40 pm

I drink only coffee and water.  I do drink lots of water too though, it does help your body keep going to be hydrated.
