Off topic- T O...O D!

Oct 6, 2006 5:31 pm

The Cowboys come to Philly this weekend.

The Eagles are a class act, so no problem there....then there's the fans. Phiily's fans aren't known as a ...hmmm....dispassionate bunch. They didn't build a jail at the stadium for nothing. These are the people who threw snowballs at Santa Claus. And if there is one man who Eagle's fans hate more than Santa, it's T. O.

The big question isn't who's going to win, or by how much. The big question is how many empty prescription pill bottles will be thrown on the field during the game?

And a bit to the south the boys of NASCAR are in Bama doing Talladega this weekend. It's the most dangerous track on the schedule. Just ask Elliott Sadler, who two years ago, rode his desintagrating M&Ms Ford Taurus down the front stretch to a 200mph roll over record. He followed that up at the next Talladega race with a last lap flying endo only to end up back on his wheels with a 22nd place finish. He commented that at least the tires were pointed in the right direction as he crossed the finish line, but the roll cost him 13 places. Not to mention a lot of spilled M&Ms. For non Nascar fans(most of us) this is a good race to watch. Lots of bumping, pushing and shoving. Even better for us NASCAR fans(anyone here?) because we know who's got a score to settle. It could get settled here at 185mph. And if it does, someone gets bumped and starts leaving expensive high performance racing hardware all over the track,  listen to the explanation... it's just racin. It always is

And then there is some sort of baseball thing going on this weekend?

Sunday night football!

Fall sports...does it get any better?

The spread on Yale-Dartmouth is 11 points.

I love this time of year, too.

Oct 6, 2006 6:44 pm

I am excited for the Monday night game and the Bears this weekend.

I pick the Broncs and the Bears to win their respective games.

Oct 6, 2006 7:29 pm

Da Berss forty tree tuh nuttin’.  Actually, I’m looking forward to seeing Magahee against the Bears D and Grossman against the attacking Bills D.  Still, Bears win big.

Oct 6, 2006 8:05 pm

Agree.  Grossman is looking outstanding thus far.  Picked him up as a free agent in my fantasy league to compliment McNabb (could be the best FA pickup since Kurt Warner took over for Trent Green in St. Louis).

Oct 6, 2006 8:10 pm

I got the Bears, too (love Rex Grossman)!

Have a nice weekend, one and all.

Oct 6, 2006 8:13 pm

Mushin has been a big big fan of Grossman’s since they drafted him.  I guess he knows something us lay people don’t.  Now, if I can only find a bunch of hockey nuts to discuss the new season with…

Oct 6, 2006 8:16 pm

Grossman was my sleeper pick on my fantasy team. Guy has turned out to be a stud. 5th best QB so far this season. Bears vs. Colts in the Super Bowl, i’m calling it now…

Sorry, Bondguy, for hijacking your thread.  But the people have spoken:  they want to talk Bears football.

That's cool! I like the bears. I like them best when they give us(Eagles) another win. So, no problem.

Oct 6, 2006 9:08 pm

Hahahaha.  Good one!   I was at the playoff game the Bears hosted a few years back.  Ug-ly.  Hugh Douglas, that is.  j/k  I don't know much about the iggles this year, but I'm a McNabb fan (chicago kid) and I'd like to see T.O. get popped.  Real hard.  Very, very hard.  What's up with the Flyers?  Was it 6-ohh last night to the Pens?  Not good, but its a long season and they have some great offensive talent.  I just hope Forsberg stays healthy.

I gave up on the Flyers way back. I can't stand Bobby Clark, legend that he is. The Birds are looking good this year despite the horrible showing during the first half of Monday night's game against Green Bay. We've got some issues in Sunday's game against T.O. Westbrook looks like a scratch. Couple of the big boys on D are hurtin. So it should be interesting. T.O. is going to get quite the fan reception. Say what you will about Philly's sports teams, when it comes to passion, no town beats Philly. That should make it one of the games to watch this weekend.

Oct 6, 2006 9:22 pm

Hey, wait a second.  Are you trying to pull a fast one?  We hijacked this thread to talk about the Bears.  You can't re-hijack it! Although I will be watching the Eagles-Cowboys game if its on here.  Go Eagles.

Oct 6, 2006 10:17 pm

Eagles will have a hard time on both sides of the ball. A lot of big names are possibly out of the line up. Westbrook, Stallworth, Smith, Brown(although he was lifted to probable today), not to mention their losses on defense. Cowboys are coming off a bye and a slaughter at Tennessee. Still, I have to go with the Eagles at home on this one.

Oct 7, 2006 12:02 am

On a related note: Al Jazeera has applied to broadcast the Eagles game this Sunday. (true story) Not sure I'd want to attend a game that Al Jazeera was broadcasting. Why would their audience be interested in American football, unless the halftime show featured the "stoning of infidels"?

A terrorist attack at the game? They'd have front-row broadcast seats to that action and you know their scumbag cohorts in the Middle East would eat that up.

Nahhhhh, I think I'd take a pass on letting "Al" get anywhere near a stadium. But that's just me...

Oct 7, 2006 5:08 pm

That is interesting- and scary... I can think of no greater stage this weekend than for some Muslim extremists to carry out an act of violence.

Lets see.... The Cowboys ("America's team") vs the Eagles on national primetime TV... How many people will be watching???? 10 million?? 20 Million?? An attack not only on our citizens but symbolism towards one of our American traditions- Sunday football??

I had not heard of Al Jazeera's request- but that concerns me...

Oct 7, 2006 7:54 pm

Hope you guys took Yale over Dartmouth today. Those Yalies beat 'em by 12 points!

Yale---26

Dartmouth---14

Penn softened 'em up last weekend for the Yalies.

Chicago Bears 4 ever and Bear Stearns, too!

Oct 8, 2006 5:51 pm

Bears 6, Bills ZIPPO for those of you who aren’t watching!

The Bears are going all the way, this year.

Oct 8, 2006 7:27 pm

I agree and wouldn't mind seeing another Bears-Patriots match-up.

Oct 9, 2006 1:27 am

Eagles win. as if there was any doubt.

And Brian Vickers bumped his team mate Jimmy Johnson out of the way on the last lap.to win the race at Talladega.

Flyers lost their season opener last night.

Oct 9, 2006 2:56 am

It was a perfect weekend. The Longhorns won, The Bears won, and The Cowboys lost.

Oct 9, 2006 3:33 am

Strange weekend here...Cardinals look like world-beaters against the Pads after losing nine of twelve to end the season.  Gordon, Dale Jr. and Jimmie J all get screwed at 'dega (I'm really starting to hate that track...), and The Colts barely hang on against winless Tennessee at home.  I'm going out on a limb here, but I think the Colts need to get a lot better with the run on both sides of the ball, or they won't win the first playoff game, much less the Super Bowl like many have predicted.

...and dang, da bears look good.

Oct 9, 2006 12:12 pm

The Bears did look dominant again, but I want to see what they look like after the back-to-back-to-back road games in the NE.  For the football fans out there who may not know more about the Bears D than Urlacher and Mike Brown.  Pay very close attention to Tommie Harris and the rook (not starting) Mark Anderson.  Tommie Harris is a superstar in the making and Mark Anderson has 5.5 sacks coming off the bench to replace Alex Brown.  Scary, scary defense.  Oh, and you better run north-south against the Bears because east-west running doesn't work.  Urlacher and Briggs will hunt those RB's down before they turn the corner.

Next up for the Bears is a horrible O line in Phoenix.  Leinhart will get massacred and the Edge will have less than 75 yards.

Just thought I would bring this up...

I'm scary good.

Jan 23, 2007 8:37 pm

Not bad ...

So what's your pick for the Superbowl winner?

I'm thinking Colts by a touchdown.

I think the Bears will run away with it in the second half.

Bears win 31-16
