Taking the Series 24

Hi all,

I'm taking the Series 24 next month and could use some pointers from those who passed. I just received my Kaplan Financial/Dearborn materials today (4th Edition manual, 2 exam booklets and a drill CD-ROM). Besides trying to master this material, does anyone know of video lectures on DVD or for download? I have the STC Series 7 DVDs and found them most useful. Any for the 24??   Thanks in advance!

I could be mistaken, but I think Kaplan has exactly what you’re looking for in the form of video instruction via computer, but I’m only repeating what I was told. I’d look on the Kaplan website if I were you.

I’ve taken and passed the 7, the 65 and the 24 in the last year.  the 24 was the most frustrating and the only one that I scored as low as in the 70s.   I used the Kaplan books and the material on the exam was pretty far afield from the book.  I would recommend a class unless you are pretty good at test taking.

Another strategy is to just go in, and memorize everything you don’t recognize (which will be a lot, so be prepared).  Write the topics down on your scratch pad, and ingrain them to your memory.  Then after failing, go back and learn all the stuff that’s not in the book :).

I just took and failed the 24 for the second time using Kaplan/Dearborn materials.  I can regurgitate 80% of the trivial facts contained in the book and the CD rom, but the questions on the test are waaaaaay different than the study material.  I passed the 7 and all my other licenses first time and handily.  I am looking for alternatives to Dearborn study materials.  Any recommendations out there?

Take the practice tests over and over and over again and you too shall pass!
