Susie Orman LOL

Feb 23, 2007 7:55 pm

I couldn't resist posting this.

http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display .jsp?vnu_content_id=1003549559

Orman says she "has a relationship with life," so Solomon presses her, and Suze then reveals that her "life partner" is Kathy Travis and, "We're going on seven years. I have never been with a man in my whole life. I'm still a 55-year-old virgin."

Orman says they'd like to get married, and both "have millions of dollars in our name. It's killing me that upon my death, K.T. is going to lose 50 percent of everything I have to estate taxes. Or vice versa."

Sounds like she needs to get some financial planning advice.   Some financial guru she is!!!  LOL my laugh for the day.

Feb 23, 2007 8:22 pm

If she really made those statments she is an absolute IDIOT!!!!!!!!

Great post.

Confrimation that Suze is an idiot, in her own words.

Too funny

Funny how you didn't mention anything about the next article on that site, the one that talks about our soldiers living with Roaches, Rats and Black spores at the hands of the "Support Our Troops" administration!

Funny.

Most of these folks don’t have a DD 214. That means they didn’t serve anyone other than themselves.

Feb 24, 2007 12:17 am

Estate planning is only for those bad rich people and insurance pushers.

Feb 24, 2007 2:41 am

Good grief...she should have her CFP revoked...what an idiot.

I happen to be a military man - I have never been told I'm a Sexy Lady and my name isn't Madison.

I don't watch Suze Orman.  If she admitted she is gay the she wouldnt make it in the military as we have a a don't ask, don't tell policy.

Post Script.

It didn't hurt Ellen to come out of the closet so why would it hurt Suze Orman?  This doesn't make her an idiot; just means she is a lesbian.

Her lack of estate planning knowledge (among other things) makes her an idiot.  The fact that this was lost on you doesn't speak well for you either.

Feb 24, 2007 5:29 am

Plus her comment about losing all her money in the stockmarket was about the stupidest thing I’ve heard from an “expert”.

Feb 24, 2007 2:40 pm

I’m willing to bet that her complaint about losing her money to taxes is

more about a fight for same-sex marriage or partnership rights rather

than a lack of knowledge regarding estate planning. It would seem to me

that someone with that much money has someone taking care of things

for her.

Or maybe she really is that dumb.

Feb 24, 2007 2:51 pm

You would lose that bet.  I have never heard her say anything that indicates that she has a clue about estate planning.

I didn't mention that because it doesn't have jack sh*t to do with the topic of Susie Orman's lack of financial knowledge.     I also didn't mention macaroni and cheese recipe which probably has more relevance to the topic of Susie Orman.

Well, I'm a military man and not up on finances or investments.  Obviously only fa's should post here since anyone else is ignorant or a moron.  I like good writing and normally just lurk, if at that.

Feb 24, 2007 9:51 pm

4luv...tough love here, man...a military guy of all people should understand that.  FWIW, I think just about anyone here appreciates what you do for a living (thanks!), but when it comes to Suze-worship, most of us make no bones about what she really is...or isn't in this case.  At any rate, we mean you no disrespect, but figure that the no-bullsh*t version of school taught here is the most efficient. So soldier...do you want to learn about this business...or do you want your feelings protected?

By the way...a burning question of mine...why on earth do you underline everything you post?

Feb 25, 2007 4:04 am

When you wear the same uniform, same combat boots, same socks: you like to stand out in the crowd - like to be unique. No one else was doing the underline so I grabbed it and made it mine, Sir.

I don't have that much interest in the business - just like good writing and a sense of humor as long as not overly done at someone's expense.  I won't post unless I have something to say or in response to post directed at me.

I did watch Suze Orman this evening and she is smart, attractive but does seem very dikey - she's more celebrity than fa if you ask me and seems to cater more to women and now we all know why!

Carry on.

Feb 25, 2007 4:12 am

I mentioned I like Apprentice.  Let's all analyze Donald Trump.  Firing that blonde after his show made it big 'cause his daughter wanted to be the mane blonde on the show.  I received some dorky invitation to a seminar where he was trying to get $1500 where you could invest in real estate on your own but put the DT Institute on your loan application and renewal fees every year for goodness sake!  What a ripoff!  Lost points with me.  BFD - just his way of getting more capital for more business ventures.  He seems to discriminate and only has YFBB's (young, faboulous, b*tchy/backstabbers) on his show, too.

I firmly believe that Survivor and Apprentice alliances do take place and this is where you can really learn about succeeding in business.

I'd be interested in the "people skills" to do well as an fa but not interested in being an fa.  No Sir.  Would not do well in sales.

Feb 25, 2007 4:57 am

4luvofmoney:

I hear you on the same uniform, same socks, same boots stuff. I used to wear hot pink, neon green, dayglo orange et al tee shirts under my fatigues just to be unique (ditto on the undies---they always matched the tee shirt color, however).

I don't watch Suze Orman very often but you're right about her coming off a lot more macho than Henry Blodget ever did. She even makes Cox look pretty wimpy.

Feb 25, 2007 5:18 pm

My point in posting the original link was to highlight that Susie Orman has no place in advising other people on financial matters since she is so ignorant on her own situation.  I thought it funny that she outed herself.....financially speaking.

A modicum of financial planning will solve practically every issue of inheritance, medical care, etc etc etc... and all the other issues that are particular to unmarried people of any sexual persuasion.  I don't care if she wants to have sex with gay sheep or likes to paint herself green and hang upside down in the closet.

Susie Orman is an ignorant person giving stupid advice to the uninformed.

Feb 25, 2007 5:50 pm

"She even makes Cox look pretty wimpy. "

he-he..she said wimpy he-he, huh huh

Bab,

Yes, the very idea that she would want to pass on her $25mm to her "spouse" (Who has a fortune of her own to worry about) does go to show that Darwin was wrong!

Feb 25, 2007 6:25 pm

All I know is this...If "Suze Says" then I'm doin' it...from now on, I am a lesbian and if I lose all my money in the stock market... so be it.

Feb 25, 2007 11:01 pm

Suze ruined my financial life. In OCT 2002 she encouraged me to sell a large portion of my equities to pay off my home.  In her words, "do you really want to have that large of percentage in equities with how much GEOPOLITCAL risk the US faces now?      The dow jones is up over 70% since then. \

Whether to pay-off debt or invest the money is always an iffy situation. One rule-of-thumb I recommend is to estimate the annual return of the market, over the next several years, and compare that to the interest rate of the debt. If the market return estimate is 2-3% more than the interest rate on the debt, invest; if not, pay down debt.

No one ever woke-up one morning and found that their debt load dropped by half. As for investments, well....

Feb 26, 2007 1:41 am

Johnson, I would not say that she ruined your life unless you proceeded

to rack up debt again. Granted, your investments mosty likely would

have outpaced what your cost of debt would have been, but hey,

hindsight…

What if she had told you to do it at the end of 1999??

You would have been calling her a savior.

Not that I am defending her. My point is that she did not hang you out to

dry. Besides, the only thing you told us was that you paid off “your

home”. If you were in way over your head, she may have been right. We

also don’t know your age, income, etc.

Though I think she is a knucklehead, Suze Orman actually gives rather

common sense advice to those that otherwise lack common sense. I can

see how her advice can save people from themselves sometimes. I am

referring, however, more to her basic, fundamental advice (i.e. don’t rack

up credit card debt, don’t buy a new car every three years, etc.). Most of

this is aimed at the people sitting at home watching Jerry Springer (and

Suze Orman), not the type of clients we typically have. She’s not a

financial advisor, she’s a therapist.

Feb 26, 2007 3:04 am

Problem with Suze is that she is fearful when everyone is fearful and greedy when everyone else is greedy.  "(Opposite of Buffet/Nick Murray/any good financial advisor mentality)

Well, don't know what branch you were in but in today's military, the t-shirt is part of the uniform and can either be Army Green or Black, although the USAF are introducing a no=iron/no dry clean version and we couldn't be happier but will put the DryCleaners on many bases out of business, though. (oh, black socks required; but you can wear white as long as no one sees them (keep them BDU's bloused and be squared away).

Wanted to comment re: Jerry Springer watchers same as Suze Orman: in her words, I don't think so!  People watch Suze Orman to get FREE information on topics of finances.  People watch Jerry Springer because they like to see people more disfunctional than themselves.  There is a difference.  Jerry Springer deals in the garbage of humanity - having affairs with husband's brother - not knowing who the baby's father and having live paternity results shown.  There is a difference in the shows and the demographics of people who watch these shows.

Wow!  It's amusing how someone can just degrade others so much.  I suppose that she failed in her own financial planning as mentioned here because of not having the same-sex marriage allowed (not that there's anything wrong with that (...there is--ok, they can get married as long as they don't tell anyone (don't ask/don't tell!).

Feb 26, 2007 4:00 am

oh that's version of uniform, not t-shirt.  Hey, I don't care: I'll be retired by then and will rack up lots of dry cleaning bills by the time the new one comes out.

http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/airforce/a/newafuniform.htm

At Ease.  Carry on.

Feb 26, 2007 3:48 pm

I suppose that she failed in her own financial planning as mentioned here because of not having the same-sex marriage allowed

No, she failed in her own financial planning because she should know, if she is truly a "financial guru", that there are multitudes of strategies to allow an unmarried partner to inherit property without the taxes she mentioned.  There are many ways to protect each other that are not predicated on being legally married.  People do it all the time.  My Aunt and "Uncle" were not married for 20 years and they had no problem passing assets or with medical care when she became ill with cancer and passed away.

This whole movement that homosexuals are being denied the same rights as married people is mostly false and is a strawman to get a political agenda pushed through society. The main issues (financially) are that unmarried people can't assume the deceased partners Social Security funds, IRAs or annuities.  A trust or trusts, a will, medical directives, holding property in the proper title and a little planning will solve all the rest of the financial issues.  Most health insurance and LTC companies have the ability to insure the unmarried partner as a domestic partner arraignment.  Most businesses will allow the addition of the domestic partner on company benefit packages.

This is the issue I have with Susie Orman.  She makes stupid remarks and the information she gives with such flourish is so generalized that it could be written on the back of a cereal box.  Free advice is worth what you pay for it.   And it is true that the people only need the caliber of advice that is given on the Teee Veeee are not our customers.

Mar 1, 2007 4:41 am

Hmmm, looks like the non-fa's are only allowed to post on the Suze Orman or Anna Nicole Smith topics as I've commented in other posts and they are deleted -- I know because I'm a MORON.

Better watch out:  I have a connection with ymm since she was USARMY Sir! -- and I'll have her spy on you to ensure you are not engaged in any wrongdoings!

She was also still griping about her assets being taxed and not being able to leave anything behind.  You would think someone would have explained it to her after her previous comments.

Mar 2, 2007 12:54 am

I believe that Susie falls into the third category of people.  For the benefit of the new board readers I'll repeat this story.

People fall into three categories.

People you can't help. You would like to help them and they would like to be helped but they don't have enough money to invest. Live on a fixed income and can't do very much.   You feel bad but have to move on.

People you can help. They have money to invest and listen to your recommendations. They will work with you to create a great investment program.  These are the people who make our lives worthwhile and provide the satisfaction in being a financial advisor.  Stick with these people and ask for referrals.

People who are too stupid to help.  They may have money.  Sometimes LOTS of money. But they won't listen to you. They fight you and second guess you every step of the way. They suspect you are stealing from them or worse they think they already know everything.  They are TOO STUPID TO HELP.  Recognize these people and run away as fast as you can.

Susie seems to fall into the Too Stupid category.  When I was door knocking at EDJ I would mark a little TS next to the persons name and forget I ever saw them.

Mar 2, 2007 2:45 am

Babs, that’s funny, but very, very true. It’s funny, when we had the little

pullback the other day, I go into my “archives” to find a couple of “TS’s”,

look at their own portfolios and get a nice chuckle (these being the

people that “knew more than me”).

These are the kind of people that are either all in CD’s, or are going to

eventually blow themselves up with their portfolios (let’s see, 50%

emerging market aggressive growth funds, 50% aggressive sector funds).

They sit there and try to tell you what a moron you are because their

portfolios beat your’s the last 3 months (“hey, my portfolio’s up 22% the

last 3 months! Can you do better than that??!”). Sure, you’re up 22%

when the market is up 1.5%. But they won’t call you up when their

portfolio tanks 67%.

Mar 2, 2007 4:23 pm

I just saw that Susie has a new PBS show that is going to start running next week. I bet this will be here last show.

Mar 2, 2007 9:04 pm

I'll give you one more category, at the risk of guilding the lily of a great story:

" TC ". They know they need your help, have money, are not stupid, just compulsively cheap. Sometimes, they are tire kickers, come in, take your time, uh huh, see the value, uh huh, might even invest a little money. Best case, a consultative relationship where you get paid something. Run.

Mar 3, 2007 4:50 am

Here's something to chew on:

Let's say you're not a financial advisor, wouldn't you do the same; that is, before you became a financial planner, were you running to seek fa services? I think not.  So now that "you"  are an fa, everyone is supposed to seek your services and using an fa is the best thing since sliced bread.  No one isn't doing anything you wouldn't do if the scenario was reversed.

Many Americans have alot of credit card debt, have trouble making ends meet and just aren't ready to use fa services and perhaps they DIY or put their funds in the 401K or a Roth and they figure they can do this on their own.

It's normally the rich people who are cheap and that's how they got to be wealthy, too.  Drive old cars and the like.  Then when you hear stories about people getting ripped off, it just makes you take a step back and use caution.

Always two sides to every coin unless you're talkin about a wooden nickel--better to spend than save since they woud expire (...your money is no good here!)  http://www.wooden-nickel.net/history/

Mar 3, 2007 5:01 am

Back to topic at hand:

My wife said that mostly women call into the show so it seems she came out of the closet and is now marketing her pitch toward women. She was on the View (missed it).  I'm not aware of anyone else with a show giving out free financial advice so I'll probably tune in 'cause I'm not in the market for an fa (don't have any discretionary income to invest right now).

Some people might do the DIY thing since they don't have alot to invest.  I'd venture to say that wealthy people who can afford financial services may be to cheap to hire an fa and the rest of us are just getting by.  Reason why I detest sales - not a pleasant job to be on commission where you have to depend on someone using your services or buying your products.  Perhaps they consider using an fa a luxury? -- at least the people without a lot of discretionary income may feel this way.

  http://www.msmoney.com/mm/investing/articles/sharing_wealth. htm

Mar 3, 2007 8:08 pm

so I'll probably tune in 'cause I'm not in the market for an fa (don't have any discretionary income to invest right now).

There's a big difference between an investment advisor and a financial advisor.  You certainly need investments or discretionary income to invest in order to need an investment advisor.   That is not true for needing a financial advisor.  (Many financial advisors are actually investment advisors.  I'm talking about duties as opposed to job title.)

Mar 7, 2007 8:56 pm

Huh?  There’s a big difference but financial advisors are actually investment advisors?  So to use an fa, you just need enough money to pay their fee.  I get it.

Mar 7, 2007 10:01 pm
Huh?  There's a big difference but financial advisors are actually investment advisors?  So to use an fa, you just need enough money to pay their fee.  I get it.
