RRs on Active Duty in Iraq/Afghan

Sep 27, 2005 1:06 pm

The NY Times is doing a story on brokers called up for active duty in Afghanistan and Iraq, the impact on their families, and the problems caused by the loss of their brokerage jobs.  If anyone has any stories or would like to offer some insights, please contact:

Here's the original thread we all worked on a few months back that got this issue before the public:   http://forums.registeredrep.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=854& KW=active+duty   All my best,   Bill

OK Bill, I'll bite on this one.  I am a rep that spent the better part of 2003 in the Middle East on active duty.  What's more, I am a dedicated NY Times fan.  By the way, my firm in general and the folks in my branch were great about supporting me and my clients while I was gone.  I did not lose a single client.

That being said, I'm thinking my firm would take a dim view of my talking to a reporter about anything to do with this business without their permission.   Yes, I know about the 1st Amendment, but good luck with that argument say in a case where you make a donation to a political candidate.

I really like your posts, but it seems to me that you should at least mention any potential employment issues (or clearly state why you feel the lack of same) before encouraging folks to speak with a reporter.
