Prospecting Heaven!

May 20, 2006 12:13 am

Heard on the radio, that a small town of several thousand (just outside of Las Vegas), owns a large tract of land. Developers have approached the town council, wanting to buy the land. The proposed windfall would result in every citizen of the town receiving $1 million dollars. That includes adults, kids, and babies.

If the deal goes thru, only town citizens who resided there as of March 31st(?), would receive the money. (Sigh: Cancelling my U-Haul rental.) No word on when it's to be decided upon.

Can you imagine, having a AAA-rated prospecting list the size of a small phone book?

Hey doberman-

You’re in the financial services biz- right?

This is a little late for an April Fools’ joke.

A little math will show how preposterous that proposal is…

Several thousand residents (4,000) times 1 million dollars each equals 4 BILLION Dollars!!!

That’s a good one!

Donald Trump isn’t paying that for prime Manhatten real estate now!!!

An actual case of a trailer park in Florida was offered 500 million
dollars in an unsolicited offer which would have been about a million
dollars Per Home-(trailer)owner. This almost happened a few months ago.

They got greedy and killed the deal by wanting to solicit more offers.
The original offer was pulled. Those trailer people are surely kicking
themselves now!

I saw the article as well, the town is called Boulder City and its south of Las Vegas.  It is also a non-gambling town

I passed through Boulder City two weeks ago on a trip to Las Vegas. It is the only way to the Dam from Vegas so it gets a lot of traffic. There is one Casino/Hotel called Rail Road Station as it sits next to train tracks. Also, there is one well known resident- Wayne Newton. The entrance to his ranch is in Boulder City.

$3.00 for a cup of coffee is preposterous, but it exists.

Ameriprise selling its own 60-year junior subordinated notes is preposterous, but it just happened.

Paying ball players millions of dollars, while paying teachers squat, is preposterous, but it happens.

So, what's different about this Vegas land deal? ...Besides, I just put it out there because I thought it was interesting. I'll leave it to you to do the due diligence.

How in the world is each resident coded as receiving the funds? Income, gift, sale of property?
I am wondering how the land is titled. Minors are not allowed to own real property. The entire town jtwros? I bet the IRS will have a ball if this is true.
