Ot: hot hot hot

Off topic alert:

It is so freaking hot here.  People are cancelling appointments today because they don't want to get their butts fried by getting into their cars.  I don't blame them. You can''t touch the steering wheel without asbestos gloves on.  It was  108 yesterday and is already 101 at 9:45 am.  Expected to hit 115 at least to day.   I guess the good news is that since everyone is holed up in their houses I can get them by phone.

That's it.  Just wanted to bitch about it.

Where do you live?

Jul 5, 2007 5:57 pm

Death Valley?

Jul 5, 2007 6:27 pm

Northern California in a retirement community area.   These temperatures are fairly typical for the summer (although a bit higher than normal).  In the winter it freezes and snows where I'm at because of the elevation.

I just mainly wanted to complain and whine.

So you're near Humboldt where all the stoners are.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_of_Jefferson   The "state" is diverse politically, with a mixture of conservatives and liberals. Many share the Westerner's common disdain of government and politics. "Politicians and diapers need to be changed often for the same reason," reads one bumper sticker.

This pretty much sums up the political feelings of my clients and probably explains a lot of my ranting posts.

Dust Bunny- you should forget NorCal and come on down to SoCal. Nothing but sun-filled days with 75 degree weather and a nice breeze…

Jul 5, 2007 6:58 pm

Not that it was so hot, but I look out and the surf was bitchen' so off I went to drop the core temp a few degrees (this IS Maine water after all!)

And now I'm back!

 I love my job!

Jul 5, 2007 10:10 pm

It is hot here to. I went for a hike Tuesday and I did not run into snow untill over 10,700 feet.  Mountains are melting fast! It has not snowed here since the first week in June! And then it was just a dusting.

The nights are nice upper 40's

Jul 5, 2007 10:53 pm

It was 108 here in the desert yesterday for the 4th.   I had to stand close to the BBQ when I was grillin’ to cool down

Jul 5, 2007 11:10 pm

It was 80 degrees and sunny yesterday. I drank about 25 beers from 10am-midnight with 300,000 of my closest friends…

Jul 5, 2007 11:35 pm

25 beers! Geeeeesh! Now, I’ve got a mental picture of you with a gut hanging over your bermuda shorts, a bad combover, an unlit stogie sticking out of the corner of your mouth, and a carpet of hair on your back.

117 today…gotta love Vegas

I used to laugh at that but when you fly from here to back east you realize that 110 with 5% humidity is much more comfotable than 90 with 90% humidity.

True but you can also get sunburned much easier because it sneaks up on you....

I almost moved my practice to Shasta CA a couple of years ago. But I decided I liked Co Rookies better. Personal choice.

Shasta is nice

God yes.  When I was at Jones, I was sent back to St Louis for an award ceremony. The temp was in the high 80s and  I think the humidity must have been the same.  .  It felt like being in a Turkish sauna and smacked in the face with a hot wet towel when we landed in St Louis. I thought I was going to melt into a pool of sweat and makeup.  Gross    At least you guys don't have to wear nylons with your business attire.

When we changed planes in Phoenix, the temp was about 105. When we got off the plane it was like..."What a relief!!!"    I don' t know how anyone can stand that humidity.

Give me 110 with a 2% humidity factor anytime compared to that.

It's much easier if you've grown up with it.

I did grow up with it and have only been back once in the last 4 years....but it was bruuutal.  Guess if I never knew the difference it would be ok.  And with the humidity comes THE BUGS.  Out here if my windshield gets a bug a month I'm suprised.

Jul 6, 2007 3:37 pm

It's all about the tradeoffs.  Our ground doesn't shake (much).  We don't get 15 feet of snow that stays around all winter.  We get to actually enjoy all 4 seasons, and about the time your tired of them they change.  4 months out of the year (Jan and Feb, July and Aug) really suck, but the rest are great.  Our bugs aren't as big as the ones up north.  No helicopter sized mosquitoes.  No forest fires.  Fewer hippies.  Few tornadoes.

If you ever want to visit Missouri, come see us in October or in April.  In my opinion those are the best months in the Show Me State.

Give or take a couple on that estimate... No plaid shorts- just the standard camo shorts, backwards Mets fitted, and shades... No gut just yet, but I am looking forward to the day many years form now when I have one....

At 49, I'm fighting mine everyday. Every morning, I stand-up straight, then look down to see if I can see my toes.

Jul 6, 2007 11:44 pm

Alright, Mister 49 year old, I entertained a bunch of neighbors over the fourth and two different guys came up to me and said I looked better for having lost some weight. It was only about six pounds! So I switched over to red wine after the first beer, and am still motivated to reduce the carbs. That felt better than getting a new client…
