Any recommendations for places to get them?  One thing I do miss about EDJ was the newsletters I sent out.

You can go to the dump and rescue the other newsletters that lazy prospectors have sent out.

Oooooo~ gotta disagree here.  Affluent clients want as many as 35 touch points throughout any given year (that was from some study I read some years ago and it prompted me to change my mode of thinking).

A monthly newletter, while the content is not poured over, does serve as a very inexpensive way to get in front of clients and prospects on an automated way...which is never, ever a bad thing.  I do a paper and an electronic version monthly and send out roughly 1000 of them each month.  On the electronic version I get the stats on how many are opened and how many articles are read.  About 50% are opened and about 25% of the articles beyond the front page articel are opened (more around tax season and year end).

Every month we get emails that clients prospects pipe in directly from that newsletter site and many of these yield business.  The content is often tied in with themes that are going on in our firm:  Last month ML changed the core asset allocation models, and the front page asked the question "Is your asset allocation right?".   That is cheap adverstising as far as I am concerned and I am all over it!

This is one of the few things I also miss about Jones.  They had some nice monthly newsletters.

I tried Liberty for a while but the content wasn't to my liking.  I have sent out compliance approved pieces from Oppenheimer and the like that have NASD approval letters.  But it isn't the same.  I don't have time to make my own newsletter or the inclination to fight with compliance about every comma.

How does your compliance department review your newsletters and emails, Rightway???

It seems that my B/D is considering a company wide newsletter. I would be more that willing to pay a fair price for that as long as the content was worthwhile.

If anyone finds a good source of articles and newsletters

I agree with Rightway. You must stay in touch with your clients and stay top of mind, or soon you will be forgotten or worse, replaced.

The #1 reason why clients leave an advisor is because they do not feel appreciated; i.e. advisor apathy! Performance is not the reason clients leave.

Newsletters have been around for decades. Why not differentiate yourself from all the other advisors? I have been using a much more personal “newsletter” for almost a year and now I get all the referrals I can now handle without asking … www.Word-of-Mouth-Referrals.com

Stephen,

I agree that personal handwritten notes are very impotant in any kind of client developement process, and doing it the old fashioned way takes a lot of time.  How does the system you are using work. Does it truly look handwritten?

I too miss the Jones Newsletters.  You may want to try

They look pretty good, and they do all the work.  This is the closest thing I've found to a Jones Newsletter system.  Call or email them and I'm sure they'll send you some samples.

I’ll send you guys all the extras I have in my office from the last several years.  I’m sure they’ll still work.  You can staple your biz card over my smiling face and send them out the door.  Just a thought.

Thanks, Meno…just what I was looking for.

Spaceman might have a point, he could get some of those 10 year old Jones research opinions, dust them off, put a new date on them and they would look the same as always, WMT, HD ect...

Our newsletter is produced by a separate company contracted my ML, so
comliance is not an issue.  The email goes out monthly
automatically with a note from us and a link to the newsletter.
You can then go in and view the stats on the current and all past
editions (how many opened, what was read, etc…).  Very usefull
stuff.  The papers copies get sent to our office and we mail them
out.
