Head of Trust Department

A buddy of mine mentioned today that the head of his bank's Trust Department was retiring and he "hoped the new guy does as good a job managing their money as the last."

I asked him what the head of a Trust Department does, and he said that they manage the investments inside the company's 401(k).

There's got to be more to the job. Does anyone know what this position entails?
