Fees for fee-based planning

Jul 19, 2006 9:57 pm

For someone with a Series 65 who is a fee-based financial planner, what
are standard fees that are typically charged for customers?

I hear numbers from 1% - 2% of managed assets charged annually.  Is this the standard range?

Thanks,

Franklin

I have seen them as low as .25% to as high as 2.5% most wirehouses charge 1-2%. Indy’s 1% and below

THe more you charge, the more business you will get. One caveat, though. You better do a better job than the typical lame knucklehead.

Most of the independents and RIAs that I have worked with in the past have charged different amounts on a sliding scale.  For example, a client with under $50k will pay maybe 1.5%, whereas a client with $500k may pay 75 bps.  Just depends on how you want to structure it, but most fall into the 1-2 range.

What do entry-level advisers normally charge? Say, a Series 65 but no CFP yet?
