Due dilly trips?

May 2, 2009 2:15 pm

Anybody been on a due dilly trip lately?  Was talking with some Natixis wholesalers at a recent internal RJ meeting, and they were saying that most money managers/mutual funds have REALLY scaled it back, or completely done away with them.

I’m going to Phoenix in May and Chicago in June.

I think Barney Frank and the guy from Dateline will also be attending.

DD trips are for losers.

Hey HAAIC, thanks for the deep thought, Jack Handy!

I think I got invited to a Protective DD trip to Alabama that supposedly includes golf at a Robert Trent Jones course. I guess they took no tarp $.

It's not like they didn't try to get TARP funds.   http://www.investmentnews.com/article/20090402/REG/904029954

So it's the same deal that Genworth faced - they wanted TARP but couldn't get it. As long as I don't have to play in the same foursome as Farney Bank I am good.

Yes, but we sure enjoy them. Why do you you say that? They are a recognition from a vendor for submittting a large amount of business. What is wrong with that?

the REITs are still doing them if your Indy.  I was at Inland a few months ago and got invited to go to Pheonix in May for Cole but can’t make it.

How do you get invited to those things? Is it simply production with one company?

At EDJ you have to be segment three or higher.  Can go to 2 per year

as an Indy, for most of them you just have to ask the wholesaler and if
they know you do any amount of productions, they’ll invite you.   I’ve
done a few mutual funds/annuity trips based on production or
wholesalers asking me but I don’t know if they’re still doing any these days.

For the REIT’s, I’ve done 3 trips over the years before ever
dropping $1 with them.  I’ve simply told them I want to meet management and see
what they’re all about before I use them in my business.

If you have to ask…

I plan on going to the Protective one. Good info hopefully and great golf course to play. I think we pay for the golf on our own dime though.
