December

It’s Monday, last month of the year and usually not a very good one at that. I just don’t feel like going in and making contacts.

So quit and go work for a bank- that’s easy work that requires little brainpower and talent other than matching your wrinkled khakis with your yellow polo shirt… Oh wait, arent you already at a bank… Havent you had like 6 days off???

I know what you mean.  The clients and prospects are busy with
holiday stuff and the weather really sucks where I'm at with snow and cold. I hate the stress and emotional ups and downs this time of year and the pressure to be "merry".

But I think this is a good time to try to contact everyone by phone and at least wish them Merry Christmas or whatever is appropriate.  Low key chit chat and maybe squeeze in some end of the year tax planning, or a gift planning idea if they have kids or grandkids. Try to set up appointments for account review either during or most likely after the New Year.

I hold a Christmas open house every year, as do the other businesses in my complex.  We try to coordinate it so it is at the same time so clients from all of the businesses can mingle, eat and drink   There are a lot of community activities this time of year that need volunteers.  A good opportunity to get yourself face time with new people.  Also an opportune time to reflect on what did and didn't work and spruce up the business plan for next year.

Don't let the holiday blahs get you down.

That's why it's not "ezmoney" and why they call it "work."

Just messing w/you..ala blarmston.  Amen to B-Loon's point--Dec is a pipeline month to me...try to set up 'em up (appts) to hopefully be knocked down between Xmas and New Year's or in January.

"Dec is a pipeline month to me...try to set up 'em up (appts) to hopefully be knocked down between Xmas and New Year's or in January."

Exactly.... You would have needed to engage prospects in September to realistically close business before the 'Holiday Stall'... I have been focusing on # of contacts, the holiday card mailings, etc, to fill up my roster of meetings in january. Even then, I dont expect much business to hit until the very end of Jan or February....

Blarm,

Even with my "wrinkled khakis" and my "yellow polo" (actually I wore a black polo today) I am still doing better now than all but one in my old ML POA class in AUM, GDC, the whole bit (the ones that are still there anyway).

You all can keep the dual flat screen computers and the downtown office...I'll take my laptop and my branches 10 times out of 10.

Bank…are you wearing your Member’s Only jacket with that outfit?

Easy buddy, just getting in a couple Holiday jabs you know? Wow, you banker- types are so uptight....

BTW, it wasn’t 6 days off it was 8. I’m not to worried about building a pipeline in Dec. In the bank, business comes all the time. Merrrrrrrrrrry Christmas everyone. Or is it Happy Holidays with the holiday tree???

Nov 29, 2005 2:40 pm

Blarm,

No worries buddy...just giving back what you're dishin' out.    It's all in good fun.

Just like to take my lighthearted jabs at ML now and again (I actually really enjoyed working there, and wouldn't be opposed to revisiting the idea SOMEDAY).  I always found it funny to see other rookies in my class sitting down the rows in the bullpen with ESPN.COM on one screen and TGA on the other...

Speaking of which...since my little laptop only has 1 screen, i should probably get it off of registered rep for now.  Everybody have a great day!

Frumhere,

Are you kidding me?  Do you know how much I want one of those?  I had one when I was a kid....P I M P.

EZ–you’re a bit schizo…if you don’t need to build a pipeline because the business rolls in all the time, don’t start a thread that conveys the “life sucks, I don’t wanna work” feeling that we all get at times.

Nov 29, 2005 8:22 pm

Nothing beats a nice members only jackets, hair spray and the smell of mothballs!  Now if that doesn’t get you ready to open new accounts, I don’t know what will!

I am a bit schizo. You have to be to be in this biz. Who said life sucked. I just said I didn’t feel like working. I feel that way most  Mondays.
