Business Suit

Jan 6, 2007 10:22 pm

Which companies make the highest quality wool business suits?  Years ago, it was Brooks Brothers.

Jan 7, 2007 12:51 am

Brooks Brothers is fine, but the clothes are generally built more for the

"mature" figure. If you are trim or fit, you look like you are wearing your

Dad’s clothes. Consider a Tom James custom suit. My first one is over 10

years old and still fits like a glove and has not worn out. If you can afford

it, a custom suit rules. Fit is FAR more important than name or materials.

I can chime in on the business shoes. I just got a pair of Allen

Edmonds a couple weeks ago, and they are pretty sweet. The

look is old school and proper for business, and there are very

comfortable as well…

Since I started wearing Allen Edmonds, I won't wear any other dress shoe. They are insanely comfortable and very upscale.

I wear mostly Joseph Abboud suits but have some Hart,Shaeffner and Marx as well. Tom James makes a nice suit and I echo Broker24. I have had a couple of suits made from a trip to Beijing that I really like, they are Super 140’s…

For the ultimate indulgence, contact a Bespoke tailor and go custom. I

believe Robb Report lists all the Bespoke tailors in the US.

Off the rack: Brioni, Isaia, Pal Zileri…but then again I’m partial to the Italian

suitmakers.

If you don't mind spending around $2,000, go to Nieman Marcus and buy a Armani or Zegna. You can't go wrong.

I know some of you will laugh at me, but the last suit I bought was an Armani off EBAY, was brand new even though it was last year's design and I paid $215 for it, another $50 to get it custom tailored and I have a great suit for less than $300.  I like nice things I'm just a cheapskate.

IMHO, Polo is the best value and the most appropriate attire for starting FAs.

Polo suits are good quality and appropraitely stylish. Italian suits
tend to be tight, and too “fashionable”. You need to look like you are
going to an private banker’s office, not a nighteclub.

I'm pretty good at that, last year I bought a used Porsche for about $10k less than blue book, it took me six months of searching to find the right one but it was worth it.  I drove it for a year and then got rid of it to for something with a backseat, actually made a profit after putting 15k miles on it, but it was hard downgrading to a BMW.

Just curious, being in the west, have only worn nice golf clothes at my office for about the past ten years. Does 'most everyone else here wear suits? I think if I showed up in a suit now, it would scare my clients. Maybe I am missing something, but I honestly feel strangled by neck ties.

I guess I’m the only frugal Joe on this board that shops at Joseph Banks & Mens Warehouse…lol.

I wear them at funerals.

I haven’t shopped at Jos Banks since I had some major quality problems with their goods about 3 years ago…

Haven’t worn  a suit in six or seven years. Then again, this is Ohio.

I shop there, very chaotic store, but the new signature line is nice. If they have a sale I will check it out, but its not the main place to shop. A la Brooks Bros.

When you order shirts, always always get the maximum collar size for your sleave length, Then tie up the tie loosely, and use collar stays. Same thing with pants, they need to fit you when you sit down.

That was the whole point of suspenders’s they hold up oversized that fit when you sit down.

I normally, wear golf-type clothing but on the whole wearing a good suit (and most people have never worn a good semi-custom suit), should be quite liberating because it fits nice.

People want to know they are working with a professional, if you show up looking like you just came from Men’s warehouse or Wal*Mart’s formal , you don’t come across as credible.

Yeah, now that I think about it that was kinda off-topic and unrelated.  I promise it will never, ever, ever happen again for the rest of the day.

It reminded me of decades ago and my first corporate job, all dressed up and sleepy afternoons in a grimy windowless cubicle. But wide-eyed at the wonder of having been hired for a job that included international travel, and a chance to wear my necktie in China. But when I got there, they were all wearing baggy. Now I am wearing baggy golf clothes, and they are wearing neck ties. Sorry, this has nothing to do with Brooks brothers or men's wear house.

Have to use something to cover up those “OSU National Champs” t-shirts

that they all went out and bought.

That was a good one!  I think I thought it was especially funny, since I was also rooting for the Gators. OSU has many supporters but I'm a UM guy (and MU as well!).

Peace to all of you as we fight terror in Somalia...

Jan 9, 2007 11:53 pm

I went to UM and its a shame to see the football program in tatters. Larry

Coker was a nice guy but a lousy coach. Let’s hope for a better season next

year.

Jan 10, 2007 7:12 am

None of that football talk mattes except how great was the Fiesta Bowl.  Statue of Liberty, Hook and Ladder, that was absolutely the best football game ever.  Go Broncos!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111
