CFP Board to Reschedule Exams

As test administrator closes sites due to the coronavirus, exam registrants will be rescheduled for July.

Add one more casualty to the growing list of rescheduled meetings and postponed events thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Certified Financial Planner Board, which grants the coveted CFP designation to financial advisors, said it will reschedule the round of examinations due to take place this month.

The board’s exam administrator, Prometric, has made the decision to close its testing facilities for at least 30 days to protect staff and clients.

As of March 16, 142 candidates were scheduled to take the test across 19 testing centers, according to the CFP Board.

All CFP registrants will be rescheduled for the July exam at no additional cost, the CFP Board announced. That examination round is scheduled for July 7-14. The standard cost to take the six-hour exam is $825.

“While we regret the inconvenience this will cause, CFP Board supports this decision to help protect public health,” said Kevin Keller, chief executive of the CFP Board. “We will do all we can to minimize any disruptions as candidates pursue certification.”

There are currently more than 86,000 financial advisors with the CFP designation.

The CFP Board has also closed its Washington, D.C., office as employees work remotely through March 27, at least.
