The Edward Jones Numbers Game
Just started the paid portion of my studies with Edward Jones yesterday. Here are some issues that I feel already.
I understand the numbers game when it comes to cold calling. I believe that it is a model that can produce great results even though it can be incredibly difficult at times. My main concern with Jones so far is that HR should not be a numbers game. Although cold calling does not worry me in the slightest, I worry that one could be axed for a slight downturn in productivity, since a new FA is on the way to take your spot.
The lack of technology- I just received my company laptop which was nothing more than a rock slab and a peice of chalk, and a printer that still has all the holes along the sides of the paper.
The last and final issue I feel right now is the $65k fee that looms over my head. Is this not an incentive to be fired from poor performance instead of generating a ton of assets and leaving to work elsewhere? I don't intend on leaving anytime soon, but eh, I'd rather not feel caged in either.
I understand the Kool Aid bit. I just wish that I could sip it casually with some rye whiskey and not be reminded that it was going to kill me.
So how much are they paying you to stay at home in your underwear and study for a multiple choice test? :P I didn't even realize that they give out a printer, too. Once you pass the test, are they flying you out to the training place? I wonder if they provide transportation to the airport and food during the training away from home...
Anyway, I think the trick is probably not to think about it too much. Let HR do what they're going to do, and in the meantime, drink the kool aid. Just drink it like a man, like a thirsty college freshman at some wild frat party. You don't even really need to know what's in it... just know that you're going to feel pretty good once it gets in your blood stream. :)
Shoot to earn one of those insane vacations!!! Keep your eyes on the prize, man. Hell, you're already in too deep to turn around, so just keep partying. Right?
