Over 170 Participants Attend Largest Monthly Continuing Education Program for Accountants in New Jersey

Seminar Founder Deener, Feingold & Stern Recognizes its 25-Year Participants

Hackensack, NJ (October 2002): In the Fall of 1977, seasoned tax attorney Jerome Deener was approached by accountant Larry Nussbaum about the possibility of lecturing to a small group of accountants on a monthly basis on the topic of tax law. Not only did Deener believe that the discussions would benefit accountants in their own practices, but he knew that the seminars would require him to continuously increase his knowledge of tax law.

The rest is history --- 25 years later, the seminars have now educated over 1,000 accountants and growing. Deener, Feingold & Stern has become one of the foremost experts in the State of New Jersey on the dynamic complex topic of tax, corporate, estate planning and IRS controversies.

Fast forward to 2002. The law office of Deener, Feingold & Stern is now celebrating the 25th Anniversary of their Monthly Accountants’ Tax Seminar Series for Practicing Accountants: Accountant’s Role in Modern Tax Planning & Compliance. What started with eight accountants in 1977, this Fall’s series boasts over 170 participants now in two locations (Saddle Brook and Wayne). It is the largest monthly continuing education program for accountants in the State of New Jersey.

DEENER, FEINGOLD & STERN…add one

In fact, the following six CPAs have been participating in the seminar series since its inception in 1977:

  • Larry Nussbaum (Traphagen & Traphagen, Oradell, NJ)

  • V. Peter Traphagen (Traphagen & Traphagen, Oradell)

  • Arthur Dalle Molle, Jr. (Bono, Chazotte & Dalle Molle, Paramus)

  • John M. Lisa (Palisades Park)

  • Sidney Kurlantzick (Rochelle Park)

  • Nicholas Paleologos (Saddle River)

The Monthly Accountants’ Tax Seminar Series meets the demands of accountants who wish to sharpen their skills in a highly competitive and changing tax world. The course is approved for both New York and New Jersey CPE credits. In each seminar, extensive outlines are prepared and distributed to each participant, followed by a formal lecture. There is ample opportunity for questions and comments. This year’s course focuses on up-to-date explanations of planning opportunities, reviewing most recent rulings, regulations and case law, in addition to analysis of new tax legislation. Tax return preparation guidelines and planning considerations are discussed. In addition to the tax lectures, two discussions are devoted to auditing and are conducted by qualified certified public accountants. From 1977 to 2002, there have been tremendous changes in tax law. According to Deener, "Significant changes have been made in estate and gift tax, S corporations, trusts and estates, and taxation for individuals. There is now a Unified Transfer Tax system for estate and gift taxes, higher exemptions, and an unlimited marital deduction. On the income tax side, rates have been reduced, deductions allowed to individuals have been curtailed, and S corporations have become more popular and more flexible. Most notably, the Limited Liability Company has become the entity of choice, allowing the greatest flexibility."

Deener’s vision is that the seminar will continue under its current format. "Tax law is dynamic. There are always new changes." He feels that accountants return year after year because the professionals from Deener, Feingold & Stern respond to the needs of the accountant --- the subject matter is relevant to their practices and the accountants are given the opportunity to consult with the Deener, Feingold & Stern partners involving specific issues relating to their own clients.
