as far as the large firms go, it is very competitive.

I know a couple of FA's who had trouble and left wirehouses to go work at fund families....

The entry level positions were internal wholesalers.......

They did it for 2-3 years and both are now external wholesalers.......one got a good region (Northeast) and is doing well.......The other got the Midwest, but I haven't spoken to him in while......

I second that large fund companies are very competitive, but it depends what you do at the fund company. If your in sales generally you have to start as an inbound rep or Internal Wholesaler. Most internals want to be externals. Many good EW's are laid off so their is stiff competition for EW jobs even if your internal.
