This question is for those of us who work at large wirehouses.

If you like working at your firm, why?

I love working at Smith Barney, I think the main reason is the support I get from my Manager as well as the enthusiasm of the Branch Manager.  I get treated as a business owner and have never been micro-managed.

I’ve worked for two large firms and have enjoyed both…by and large I think I’ve been left alone to develop my own business.  Sure there are annoyances associated working in a large organization, but in general I have come and gone as I pleased and done business the way I want.  I’ve only been in the business for 5 years, but this idea that advisors at large firms have someone standing over them all day seems ridiculous.  I also like knowing that when I say I’m based at SB, ML, MS, etc., I don’t have to explain who that is or what we do (yes, Put had a point there).
