I am a LOS 4 financial advisor. Before becoming an FA, I had planned to go into private wealth management but I was offered an FA position which I decided to take. While I have survived, I have not thrived and I am now considering making a change. I have been discussing potential private wealth management positions with an MD of the private bank from my firm and an MD from the private bank at another firm. At either firm I would be the internal associate for a few years before progressing to an external relationship manger/private banker role.

How would protocol apply to a FA going into private wealth management?

Which private wealth management firms/private banks do you think have the greatest opportunities for someone starting out and why?

Has anyone else on these forums made the FA to private wealth management switch? If so, what advice do you have for others considering the change?
