I am unclear on whether I need to have a phone line installed. In my email it states: “You will need, at your expense, either a telephone landline, high-speed internet access (DSL, cable modem, etc.) or a wireless connection to operate the tablet.” I have broadband for the internet connection. I use my cell for all calls. How much time will be spent throughout the study program on conference calls?

It says you will need one of those things “to operate the tablet.” It doesn’t even address how you will make phone calls. Sounds like another Einstein has joined Jones.

That’s why I’m asking the question here. I am trying to determine whether I will be fine doing the conference calls on my cell or whether I need to go ahead and have a phone line installed. The number of conference calls will greatly affect which option I go with. Obviously it doesn’t address anywhere in the email they sent me whether I would need a phone for calls, or else I would have posted that instead. Since this was the only part that made reference to having a landline phone, I quoted it. Obviously I understand that that was referring to the internet connection. This is why I stated immediately after the quote, I have broadband for the internet.

you will need a phone

about one conference call per week. about an hour apiece (some more some less). keep your cell plugged in…and make sure you know how to mute.

Not knowing how to mute seems to be an issue for you.

Just call your development leader at Jones and ask.

Jesus Christ, do people have any initiative?  Why the @#$% would you come on a RegRep forum to ask that question???!  What would you do if chat rooms didn't exist?  Write a letter?   Here's the deal.  You need a connection for your tablet PC while you're studying.  You need any phone you feel like using to make calls (conf calls, etc.).  Once you are registered (now that seems like a big assumption), they will pay for you to have a business phone line installed at your home to call clients and be your "registered" phone number with the SEC/FINRA.   Seriously, no offense, but I can't understand how some people manage in their daily lives when they come on here and ask some of the dumbest questions that can quickly be answered with a phone call to the person that said they would answer these type of questions for you.  And don't say you don't know who to call.  If Jones could lay out the training process any easier for you, they would actually have to send people to take your exams for you.

No offense taken. Actually, I just figured my development leader wouldn’t be in on Sunday and I was curious about it. (I hate waiting around to get answers- kind of OCD in that way.) The phone company is available on Sunday, and I could possibly get the install scheduled for this week. (Having worked at the phone company in the past, I’m aware that it can take a week or more for a scheduled install, so the sooner you make the call the better.)

Thank you Fud Box for your informative and helpful answer. I will wait if it’s only one call a week. I just didn’t know if it would be a daily thing.

On another note, considering I’m already 6 and 63 registered, and I have over 3 years experience working under some incredibly knowledgeable financial advisors, I don’t think it is a “big assumption” that I will pass my 7 and 66. Of course, I’m not taking anything for granted, and will study diligently, but please don’t insult my intelligence. I appreciate the info on them installing the business line once I reach my can-sell.

This is too funny.  The ironic part about it, is the fact that they address the phone line issues on the conference calls.  I even think that jones schedules the install.  Surely they won’t schedule it until after she passes her exams though.  If memory serves you get it about a week before eval/grad.  Some folks in my class were on the phone with the install people and they’re spouses when we were in st. louis trying to get it hammered out.

Someone should probably tell her that the series 7 is not 7 questions about what its like to work under incredibly talented FA's at nat city.

They may not have mentioned it on your conference call, but there is something called a prospectus.  It is way cool and if you read it you may know more than the nonsense the wholesaler will sling at you.

Dianne, i am in no way insulting your intelligence, but I can assure you one thing. Do not assume at all that you will pass it because you have your Series 63. It’s nowhere near the same test. When I passed I was told by the instructor that she see’s people who have worked in the business for years fail the test every day.

Just study hard and take it seriously and you’ll be great!
I was just irritated by B24 saying it was a “big assumption” that I would end up becoming registered, i.e. passing my tests, based on the fact that I posted this question. I am definitely not taking anything for granted. I will be busting my tail on the 7 and 66, for sure.

You wont pass

Oh, my gosh. Really? I’m gonna have to review my study calendar then. I could have swore it said the first week is spent on one question about my experience under incredibly knowledgeable FA’s. The second week is spent on a second question, 7 questions through 7 weeks, and then I get three weeks to review my 7 questions.

Do you mean that there are actually, like, 10 questions on the series 7? Shouldn’t they call it the series 10, then? I’m kind of confused.

Oooo, I hope there are only 6 questions on the 66, not 66. I’m gonna have my work cut out for me.

Trust me Dianne…watch out on here. Very few people on here like positive attitudes or positive news. To them its all a bunch of BS. Let me sum up all 400 billion threads on this site for you:

1. Oh, you are doing great huh? Your lying.

2. Oh you have a question? You’re stupid.

3. Oh you’re confident? Your an arrogant prick.

4. Oh you’re new? You don’t know sh*t about anything no matter how educated you are.

5. Oh you work hard for a living? You are a horrible parent.

6. Oh your taking the Series 7? You won’t pass.

7. Oh you work for Jones? You drink to much kool aid.

8. Oh you misspelled a few words, or don’t care how you type on a stupid forum? You are the most un-intelligent person I have ever met.

9 .Oh you have been in the business for 30 years but never been a broker? You won’t make it.

I think that sums up every conversatiion ever made on this site. So Dianne, if you have any positive news or any questions that you want good info for, then PM some of the positive people on this site. Otherwise your thread will at some point morph into one of these 9 senarios. Good luck.
What cracks me up about this is the fact that at least 5 of those responses are Hank Moody’s (or whatever username he is using any chosen day.)
