Can anyone help me out with what the training process looks like.  I am certainly not guaranteed a position, but I have been highly reccomended by two FA’s that would like me to join their team.  If I get an offer…what takes place  next?  I have to get my cert’s… is the training before or after that?  Is the formal training done at the branch or do they ship you off somewhere? and for how long?  TIA for any help!

These financial advisors badly want you on their team but they failed to tell you how the process works to join their team?

I have used them for my personal accounts for 10+ years while I was doing well in a different industry...they always have communicated to me that if I ever wanted to join them, just say the word.  They approached me again last week...I have always wanted to be a FA, but the industry I was in was just too lucrative to leave, well that industry is not soo great anymore, thus my consideration to finally join them.  I spoke with them briefly on Tuesday and Friday I informed them that I was interested in seeing what MSSB had to offer.  The manager emailed me 30 minutes later and I filled everything out by Friday afternoon.  Sorry, I should have explained a bit more!  I am excited about getting into the industry because this has always been my dream job.  I think I can easily come up with the minimum AUM goals just with friends, family, former business partners, neighbors, etc...  I have been informally been advising them for a while now anyway, I got most everyone I knew out of the markets in July 07 and they just sat in short dated bonds.  I am hopefull that they have appreciated the free advice:)

I think with their recent merger with SB, they are not sure of the direction. I don’t know if it is was BS by a BM MSSB, but they kept changing the date of the training course and etc., due to the merger.

When you have 2 different cultures, it is not going to be smooth, especially when Gorman sais his focus was on institutional transactions rather than wealth management.

thanks otane…so no clear direction huh?  In the past, did they ship you out for training or do it in the branch?

i just started this past Monday.  I have very structured training and don’t ship to NJ for training until January 24th 2010.  Even then, that is only for one week.  Everything else is in branch as far as I know.

Going through it right now, 3 months to study and pass 7, 66, 31, and MS test.  Training is combined on computer, in the branch, and formalized training at a regional site.

Workin - Are you just hitting the books down at the office?  Are you able to get on their systems to get yourself oriented?

Top - have they said anything about training in NJ?  I have heard that the SB guys went to NJ, but I have heard nothing for the MS guys…

Already have my 7, 66 and L&H.  Most of my days right now are spent building call lists.  I am not sure where the national training is but it’s just before your production date.

My national training is January 24th or so, that whole week, 2010

Thanks for the info Work.  Did you hire on at a MS branch or SB branch?  I just took the online 2.5 hr test today…gotta love those random questions!  Not hard, but they certainly try to confuse you!  Did find out how you did on the test or do they just look it over and throw in your file?

Sep 22, 2009 1:53 am

I was told I did extremely well on the test and that although my resume lacked some of the experience they wanted, the test pushed me through.

I was hired in a SB branch.  Just found out that because of the merger, the MS branch and us will be merging into one office next summer.
