Often the background checks are not performed until you actually accept a position and pass the exams.

Why do you care?

Why are you using two different names?  BUDDYROSE and NOBRAKES?

If you've accepted the offer you should be at work now.  It can take weeks, even months, to run your fingerprints.

I'm not sure who to talk to on this thread:

buddyrose, nobrakes or put trader

I'm so confused.

Aug 7, 2006 6:20 pm

I didnt know I was using someonelses name? I am using a public computer at a University. Sorry! I dont think its that big of a deal!

Aug 7, 2006 6:27 pm

Don’t worry about it, BUDDYROSE.  It’s only a big deal to that pimple called NASD Newbie.  It’s the only way available to him to feel superior.

Aug 7, 2006 6:29 pm

Ok, well now since we’ve cleared that up does anyone know the name of the company that does the background searches for MS?? just because its been three weeks!

Aug 7, 2006 6:42 pm

I know it’s not what you want to hear, but these things take time.  I really don’t think you can help the situation by trying to force it, so just sit back and enjoy the ride!

I think they're all the same person, so don't worry about it.  Just speak your mind.

That computer signed into the Registered Rep magazine's forums all by itself?

I would have sworn that you'd have to put in a user name and password--you should report it to some agency or something.

Ask the Branch Manager when he/she thinks you will be cleared to start.  Ask the question you want the answer to, from the correct person.  Rule #1.

How many of you were offered the job, then told you’d have to wait several days or weeks while your background was checked?

If I recall correctly, I was offered the job & told that my background check would take about six weeks, In the meantime they gave me a stack of  books to study the series 7.  Bottom line is, if you're waiting around for a background check...sounds like they're hanging you out for whatever reasons.

I agree.  There was a Seinfeld episode once where George was convinced that he was going to get a job because the employer said they were keeping his resume on file.

The employer--in this case Morgan Stanley--is running the risk of losing a desireable hire if they don't formalize it and have the new employee start coming to the office while the various checks are being done.
