Wht are your likes & dislikes about being in the biz? Pros, cons?

To classify my question alittle more from what I've researched so far,

-is it always better to go indy? Is this the same as RIA?

As a more experienced pro,

-what can you tell a person who is researching and determining whether to enter this field, steps involved?

Valid, helpful responses would benefit people who are considering whether to enter this field?

-Are there books available that would help with the decision?

- Best firms to work for?

-Is it always better or is it a necessary evil to start with a wirehouse first?

-Is it best to work at a wirehouse where you'd want to go indy or doesn't it matter?

-If you leave a firm, can you take your clients (or book?) with you.

Just asking for some introductory, beginner orientation to help us career researchers with our decisions.  If you choose not to answer, that's ok.  These questions may have been asked but search feature doesn't work in obtaining answers to my preliminary questions.

Thanks or No Thanks in advance should you "pros" decide to be forthcoming with helpful answers and/or none of you "pros" decide to give any helpful answers to my questions.

Instead of us just handing this information to you, why don’t you get off your lazy ass and search the volumes of posts on this very subject?
