I have been working as salaried employee for a company. I do not like the way it is structured and rather want to be an independent agent. I am licensed and certified for five states and all major medicare carriers and know the business inside out and love it.

The other interest I have is life insurance. I have never sold any life insurance, but I know the products and plans and am licensed in five states there too.

Here is my plan: I would like to become a life insurance agent for NWM because I love the company and was referred there by a former, now retired agent. I am waiting to be interviewed. I also would like to stay in medicare but as an independent contractor. As this business is very seasonal, my main income has to be from NWM, with medicare being more towards the end of the year.

The only problem: How do I finance this? I have three teenagers to feed and work already now my butt off, but barely scrape by, so no way to save funds for dry beginner months. My son and my daughter want to both work for the summer to help with income,if I get a signing bonus from NWM which I read they had. This information though seems old. Does anyone know if there is one and how much it would be? How did you finance the first few months until income is generated?
