I get the impression independents also care for their clients more then normal. Is this right or am I just working with the right independent.

I would hope that most every broker/agent cares about their clients.  The independents have more time to devote to clients and deepen the relationships. We are not under somebody else's artificial quota demands (just our own goals).  Obviously we need to make a living.

It is just that as an independent you get paid more, get to keep more than at a wire house.  Speaking for myself, I am not looking to geometrically increase my client base just for the sake of saying I opened X # of accounts this month.  I would rather have fewer and better clients with more assets undermangement than the same number of assets with many more accounts to service.  (Did that make sense?) You just can't do a good job if you are stretching yourself too thin and frantically reaching for the next dollar so you won't get canned by the manager.  You are your own manager.   I must admit that sometimes I have to kick my own butt to get me back in line.
