I just finished studying off-of a 2005 Kaplan book; how much of the material changed since then?  I’m guessing not much.  I’m also doing the practice test and getting 71-72%; hopefully the real test will be easier.

I just took the 7 on Monday and scored exactly what i was getting on my practice test. It did not seem any easier than the book tests and i was told that it would be. I am not sure what has changed since the 2005 book, i would think not much.

When are you taking the exam?

As far as changes from 05 go, you'll want to look at updated IRA/401k contribution maximums.  Also any tax changes.  You should be good to go.  I'd try to get that practice score up to AT LEAST 75% before going in.  I thought the real thing was 10x's harder than what  I studied, and I went through "the best" (or so they say) training... but I still got my practice score on the real thing.

Muni’s and options are almost 70% of the test. Know those two sections COLD and you will pass. I wouldn’t feel comfort until I was scoring in the 90’s on the practice tests. Remember the stress you will be under actually taking test vs. practice.

Not too sure about what would be out of date for the 2005 version, other than retirement contributions.  You may want to pay special attention to any of the regulatory questions, since NYSE and NASD combined in 2007.  I know for my 24, it was a huge difference between the test version pre-FINRA and post FINRA - but that test has a lot more of the regulatory side on it.

What kinda chop shop do you work for that doesn’t even give up to date training manuals?

I bought the best program Kaplan had to offer off ebay. I took out the CD’s and made copies and then resold it on ebay for $10 less and used an older book. I got to the point that I could finish the question by the first few words never mind the answers. Beyong Muni’s and options you have to realize the test is about trickery and double nagatives.

Honestly, there’s not trick. Take your time, you’ll have plenty of time. Get a really good sleep and eat a very good breakfast and you just got part of the 20% of the 70% you need.
